St. Lucia may be small in size, but she has a personality that fills the room. Like many thoughtful cats, she prefers to take her time getting comfortable in new surroundings. She likes to observe, assess, and decide that everything is safe before fully letting her guard down. Once she does, however, she transforms into an affectionate, devoted companion who wants to be close to her people.

When St. Lucia chooses you as her person, you'll know it. She loves curling up nearby, soaking up attention, and rewarding her favorite humans with loud purrs and endless biscuits. She has a sweet, loving nature and forms strong bonds with the people she trusts.

St. Lucia also has a playful side that keeps life entertaining. She is energetic, curious, and always ready for a game, whether that means chasing toys with her family or inventing her own adventures around the house. She can happily entertain herself, but she also enjoys interactive play and the attention that comes with it.

In her foster home, St. Lucia has done well with small dogs and is comfortable around multiple people. Her experience with large dogs and other cats is currently unknown, so any introductions should be made thoughtfully and at her pace. Given time and patience, she continues to grow more confident and secure.

St. Lucia is approximately 12 years old, spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, free of parasites, and has had senior bloodwork completed. She recently underwent a dental procedure where her remaining teeth were extracted, meaning no future dental bills for her adopter. Even better, she is eating with more enthusiasm than ever now that her mouth is pain-free.

When St. Lucia first came into rescue, she was severely underweight and clearly had not been receiving the care she deserved. Since then, she has blossomed. With proper nutrition, veterinary care, and love, she has regained a healthy body condition and is now absolutely stunning.

She has excellent house manners, reliably uses her litter box, and enjoys both wet and dry food. St. Lucia is looking for a family that will understand her need for a little patience at first and appreciate the incredibly rewarding companion she becomes once she settles in.

If you're looking for a cat with equal parts sweetness, personality, playfulness, and devotion, St. Lucia may be the perfect addition to your family. Once she trusts you, she'll be your loyal shadow, your biscuit-making champion, and your constant companion.

These three lovely girls recently lost the only home they’ve ever known, and we’re hoping to bring them into Umbrella of Hope so they can stay safe.

We want to help them, but we can only do so if we have committed foster homes ready to welcome them. Fostering saves lives and gives animals a soft place to land during a difficult transition.

If you have room in your heart and home to foster, please reach out. With your help, we can give these girls the second chance they deserve.

When the shelter reached out and asked if we could help this injured senior boy, our answer was an immediate YES.

Meet the invincible Nelson Toothpaste. At 10 years young, this handsome boy went through what most have not. BUT, despite everything he’s been through, he has been nothing but sweet, gentle, and grateful. It is suspected that he was attacked by another dog, leaving him with a large puncture wound along with several bumps and bruises. Thankfully, our veterinarian is optimistic and believes he will make a full recovery with proper care and time.

What amazes us most is his spirit. Even while recovering from painful injuries, he has remained a perfect gentleman—kind, patient, and trusting with everyone he meets.

Now it’s our turn to help him heal.

If you would like to contribute toward his medical care and recovery, any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. Your support helps us provide the veterinary treatment, medications, and comfort he needs as he begins his journey to a brighter future.

Our is the FANTASTIC FOUR. There is no adoption fee for Pet of the Week to approved homes.

The Fantastic Four have been long term residents with their fosters and would very much like to find their forever homes.

Waiting for 225 days is Nikidik AKA Doc, who is 5 lbs and 7 years old. He had an eye removed due to glaucoma but has since recovered. He can be spicy but is very food motivated.

Axl and Boq have both been waiting a staggering 200 days. Axl is 10 lbs and 11 years young. He is on heart medication. He loves socializing and going for walks. He gets along with other dogs but not great with cats. He can resource guard so separate feeding is recommended.

Boq is 6 lbs and 9 years old. He is deaf and has limited vision. He gets along with dogs and while he can shy at first with humans, he is sweet and affectionate once he knows you.

Lastly, Harpy has been waiting for 180 days. Harpy is 7lbs and about 1-2 years old. He is very sight impaired but not fully blind due to corneal edema - not painful and currently does not require eye drops. He loves humans, other dogs, cats, meals, and toys.

To inquire about adopting any of these fantastic pups, please send an email to [email protected].

Meet Wallaby.

At first glance, Wallaby looks like a tiny German Shepherd puppy who never quite grew up. In reality, her story is one of remarkable resilience and survival.

Wallaby came to the shelter after a concerned citizen noticed that something was very wrong. At approximately 8 months old, she weighed only 9 pounds and had become unable to walk normally. Instead of receiving the nutrition a growing puppy desperately needs, she had been severely malnourished during critical stages of her development.

When veterinarians evaluated her, they discovered the devastating effects of long-term nutritional neglect. Her body had been forced to pull calcium and minerals from her own bones just to survive. The damage was so severe that her bones were difficult to visualize on radiographs. Further testing revealed bilateral pelvic fractures and permanent developmental changes that left her physically stunted with unique angular limb deformities that give her a charming, ballerina-like gait.

Despite everything she has endured, Wallaby’s spirit remains completely intact.

With dedicated veterinary care, a carefully managed refeeding program, and plenty of love, Wallaby has made incredible progress. She is now healing well, gaining weight, and learning what it means to simply be a happy puppy. She loves people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and greets new friends with enthusiasm. Watching her prance around, chase toys, and explore the world is a daily reminder of just how resilient dogs can be.

Now weighing in at a mighty 12 pounds, Wallaby is continuing her recovery journey and still needs ongoing medical care, nutritious food, and support as she grows stronger each day.

She is gentle, affectionate, quiet, and easygoing. She has done wonderfully with other dogs and seems to make friends wherever she goes. We often joke that she’s an honorary Chihuahua because of her tiny size, although she’s probably far too friendly to qualify.

Wallaby’s body may always be a little different, but she doesn’t let that slow her down. Right now, we’re not looking for a home for Wallaby just yet. We’re seeking donations to help cover the cost of her continued care and ensure she has everything she needs to keep healing. Your support will help give this resilient little girl the best possible chance at a healthy, happy future.

Helping her is easy. You can send a check or money order to Umbrella of Hope 4040 Railroad Ave Pittsburg CA 94565. We also accept

This little cutie patootie needs our help.

At 14 years old and weighing only 5 pounds, this sweet senior girl is sitting in a shelter and desperately needs a way out. Without intervention, she is at risk of euthanasia.

We can save her, but we need a committed long-term foster with the understanding she has diabetes. Are you willing to open their heart and home to her? To help make that possible, Umbrella of Hope will cover the cost of her insulin for the rest of her life.

Senior dogs like her deserve comfort, love, and a soft place to land—not a shelter kennel.

If you can foster, please email us at [email protected]. Even if you can’t foster, sharing this post could help us find the person who can.

Please help us give this tiny girl the second chance she deserves. ❤️

🚨 CAN ONE PERSON HELP? 🚨

We don’t need a big team right now.
We just need one person to say yes.

One foster home.
One person willing to open their door, even temporarily.

We’ll make it as easy as possible:
• We pay for all veterinary care
• We provide all supplies
• We guide you every step of the way
• Volunteer hours available upon request

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need a perfect setup.
You just need a safe space and a little time.

📍 Greater Bay Area & Sacramento region (and everywhere in between)

If even one person steps up, we can keep going.

Meet Jost Van D**e (but you can call him Van!)

Breed: Terrier Mix (Likely Rat Terrier / Jack Russell blend) Age: 10 years young Weight: 18 lbs

Hello there! My full name is Jost Van D**e, but my foster family just calls me Van. I am a handsome, 10-year-old terrier mix weighing in at a perfectly portable 18 pounds.

If you look into my very sweet eyes, you'll instantly see what a gentle soul I am. I am a total social butterfly who gets along wonderfully with absolutely everyone I meet—humans and other dogs included!

I pride myself on being a very good boy. I already know exactly how to use a doggy door, and I am mostly potty-trained (though I might have a rare accident indoors while I'm adjusting to a new home's routine). I walk wonderfully on a leash and make a great strolling companion. I do get a little nervous during car rides, but with some gentle reassurance from you, I can brave the road.

At my core, I am a professional lap dog and a world-class snuggler. My absolute favorite time of day is bedtime, because I love nothing more than burrowing right under the covers to sleep next to my favorite humans all night long.

I should also mention that I am very food-motivated! This is great for training, but because I love my meals so much, I can sometimes challenge other animals for food. For that reason, I sometimes need to be fed separately from any other furry siblings in the home so everyone stays happy and relaxed.

If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate, and snuggly gentleman to keep your lap warm, I’m your guy. I have a whole lot of love left to give—could it be to you?

As a rescue, we witness heartbreaking cases of animal abuse and neglect from all across the state. Sadly, this story is no different.

And yes — this is real. These photos are NOT AI generated. This is a living senior dog we saved from euthanasia.

Meet Theodent Toothpaste.

Until he can be professionally groomed, we aren’t even sure what breed mix he is. He’s estimated to be around 8–10 years old and has a heart murmur. We are still getting to know him, but one thing is already clear — he is deeply attached to his foster and just wants to feel safe and loved.

So far, he has been such a good boy.

As we continue learning about his medical and emotional needs, we are asking for your help to raise donations for his care. Every contribution will go toward veterinary treatment, grooming, medications, and helping “Theo” finally experience the comfort and kindness he deserves.

If you find it in your heart to help Theo you can donate by sending a check or money order to: UOH 4040 Railroad Ave Pittsburg CA 94565
