Allie Mae finally had her surgery. TECA Total Ear Canal Ablation. They basically removed her ear canal. As always she did well and won the praise of the amazing staff at U of Penn. The lamp shade will be worn for about 2 weeks and she will be back to normal after her stitches are removed. She will be deaf in one ear, but that did not stop her from hearing me open a bag of treats.

I will never give up on Allie as she never gave up on my elderly father when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. She sat by his side the entire day watching him for 3 months until I came home, and only then would she leave him. She was by his side when he passed licking his hand and sat by my feet while I mourned. We are very fortunate to have her and cannot imagine our family without her.

Reaching out to the dog community. Here is an update on Allie's condition. Allie has a benign mass in her ear that most likely will grow even more and cause more damage. This is due to the chronic ear infections she has had to deal with in the last two years.
Surgery involves removing the cartilage in her ear.
PROS: no more infections (not guaranteed)
CONS: Allie will be permanently deaf in that ear.
Some balance issues that last weeks to months

I am seeking advice from anyone has experienced a similar issue or knows of anyone has.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

My Christmas gift from my family. (a complete surprise) A professional portrait of our Allie Mae. They couldn't decide on one so they created a collage. This took a half a bag of treats, but as always Allie Mae shined. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my canine friends. (Who said black dogs don't photograph well?) MYTH!

This was Allie Mae's first hockey tournament in the Boston area during the Labor Day Weekend. Thankfully, the Best Western in Marlborough MA was dog friendly with no questions asked as to weight and breed. Allie excelled in in all aspects of socialization. She did great with elevator etiquette and how to avoid eye contact with others, while respecting the space in the elevator. She was rewarded with time on my bed. Overall, people once again fell in love with her.

If it was not for Allie Mae we would not have rented this house on the North Fork of Long Island. Allie cannot be away from her family for a prolonged period of time. She becomes depressed and will not eat. Therefore, the decision was made that she must be included in our vacations. Thanks to Shorecrest rentals which owns this house and the B&B across the street, both are dog friendly. Allie quickly adapted and although this property is not fenced, she understood the perimeter and never left it. Most of the wineries are dog friendly and she was even invited into the one tasting room by the staff. It was simply more enjoyable having her.
