Broken heart syndrome isn’t just a human thing… our pets feel it too 💔

And sometimes… they feel ours.

About a month after losing Darla, I took both of my kitties in for bloodwork. Lily was losing weight fast. Whip didn’t have anything clearly out of sorts—but because my nervous system was. Hyper-vigilance was in full swing.

And then the results came back…

Elevated pancreatic enzymes.
Elevated cardiac BNP.

In both of them.

Lily’s esonophils were off the charts😬.

I remember thinking—do I just throw all my nutrition and gut health knowledge out the window?! These are cats who have been fresh-fed, supported, rotating CoQ10 for years… this didn’t make sense.

To complicate things, Lily had a fractured tooth that likely needed to come out—but the dental specialist wouldn’t touch her without an echocardiogram because of that elevated BNP.
I said, “I think this is transitory, due to stress.”
She insisted it wasn’t.

But here’s what was true…

Our home had just been shattered.

Darla and Lily were inseparable. And when Darla passed, everything changed—our energy, our rhythm, our emotional state. Lily was frantic… and honestly, so was I.

There was no calm. No routine. Just grief.

So instead of rushing into procedures and panic, we shifted the focus:
More presence
More grounding
More nervous system support
More love (for all of us)

And three months later…

Every single number normalized.
Including that cardiac BNP.

Nothing “mysterious.”
Nothing “chronic.”
Just a body responding to emotional trauma—and then healing from it.

This is your reminder:

Our pets are deeply connected to us.
Their hearts—literally and energetically—feel our world.

And sometimes what shows up in labs… isn’t pathology.
It’s emotion. It’s stress. It’s loss.

Darla taught me so much about looking at the pet, not just the numbers.

And once again… she was right.

Trust yourself.
You know your pet better than anyone. 🐾

🧡🐾🧡🐾
It’s been quite a year -one that stretched me, softened me, and reminded me that even when the road is hard, small miracles still appear.
There were days I wondered if we’d get another tomorrow… but we did.
My gratitude is deep -for the lessons, the healing, the hands that helped hold us up, and the team that walked beside us when hope felt thin.

It’s not easy, not linear, not always hopeful. And it made me want to say something to every pet parent walking this road too.

So this one’s for you. 🐾

If you’ve sat with your pet through trembling, flares, setbacks, or uncertainty — I see you.
If you’ve whispered “please be okay” under your breath more times than you can count — I see you.
If you’ve held hope in one hand and fear in the other — I’ve held it too.

For the ones who stay up through the night listening to breathing, researching lab results, warming food- I see you.

We don’t do it because it’s easy.
We do it because they are family.
Because we would move mountains for them — and some days we do.

We love them like family because they are family.
And the way you show up? It matters. It’s powerful. It’s love in its truest form.

If you’re in a hard chapter right now -you’re not alone.
If you’re celebrating small wins -Im cheering with you.

From one dog mama to another-thank you for fighting for your pets, for believing in healing, and for showing up even when it’s hard.
🐾🧡🙏🏻🐾🙏🏻🧡🐾🙏🏻🧡

🐾 PSA for Pet Parents & Friends of Pet Parents

Two questions I wish we could retire forever:
❌ “What are you going to do when [pet’s name] isn’t here anymore?”
❌ “Are you going to get another one?”

Yes, Darla is almost 16 and has health challenges BUT, she’s my baby. She looks amazing. She’s here, she’s happy, and we’re enjoying our life together now.
When you ask me to imagine her gone, you’re asking me to picture the worst day of my life while she’s still in it.
And when you ask if I’ll “get another one,” you’re treating her like she’s a replaceable thing — not a soul, not a bond, not family.

If you wouldn’t ask someone, “What are you going to do when (family member) dies?” or “Will you have another to replace them?” — don’t ask a pet parent either.

Want to show you care instead? Try:
❤️ “She looks great — how’s she doing?”
❤️ “You two are lucky to have each other.”
❤️ “I hope you have many more good days together.”

We’re not counting down the days — we’re making the days count. 🐶💛

“Go a little Darla…” 🎶

I cried tears of joy watching my almost-16-year-old girl run home for breakfast.

Just two weeks ago, she was recovering from major surgery. Her kidneys were failing. Her little body has been through more than I can put into words.

And yet — look at her go.

She’s powered by something I’ll never fully understand, but I trust it with everything I have. She reminds me daily that life isn’t about the odds stacked against us, but the spirit that carries us forward.

My little lady has shown me what resilience truly looks like. And I am so grateful I get to walk (and sometimes run 😉) beside her on this journey.

Here’s to Darla — my miracle girl. 🐾💕
