Loess Hills Equestrian, LLC

Loess Hills Equestrian, LLC Hi there! I am Marlee Christensen, Owner or Loess Hills Equestrian. LHE is located in the beautiful Loess Hills of Pisgah, Iowa on my husband's family land.

When you come out for a visit, you will likely see the Christensen's family cattle roaming the countryside, along with my amazing family members working the fields surrounding the facility. Although my facility is brand new (built in April of 2021), I have been providing private lessons for about three years. I have two horses that are used in my lesson program and they are absolute sweethearts. E

ach lesson will be 45 minutes in length and will consist of learning how to properly tack up your horse, how to ride, safety measures, horse behavior, and horse health/wellness. Horse training is also offered at LHE. I would also like to add some credit to certain people since my dreams would not have come true without them: Throughout the years, I have been trained by Professional Barrel Racer Jesse Hodges (Hodges Horsemanship), Professional Hunter/Jumper Caitlin Bazis (Olive Branch Equestrian), and have taken clinics with Morgan Snyder (Snyder Performance Horses). Two of the horses on my property (Savvy and Scotch) were bred by the WONDERFUL, Deb Campbell. Each of these amazing professional are located around the Omaha area and come highly recommended! Please feel free to call/message me with any questions or if you would like to set up a visit!

I love witnessing the incredible behavior change in a horse when training them. Two weeks ago, this horse had me “sand skiing” across the arena. Also, I apologize for Kinsley’s scary taste in music playing in the background 🫣

You don’t have to go fast when starting a c**t.
Take your time.
If you want to be a successful c**t starter and do it more than 10-15 years, then you better make sure you do things safe for you and the horse. Otherwise, your body won’t last a long career!

One of my first lesson students of LHE graduates high school this year and goes onto college to become an Equine Vet 🥹 She went from being a beginner rider, to a horse owner, to a lesson instructor, to a horse trainer, to a Rodeo Queen, and now to college! I’m so proud! Can’t wait to use her as my equine vet once she graduates…I get discounts right?!😉Kymber Johnsen

PORTER UPDATE 🐶🐾

Well this was a fun day *dripping sarcasm*. With a tornado touching near my family back home, I was in the city with Porter to get his staples out. While I’ve seen leaps and bounds of improvement in him, the vet had several concerns that decided to jump start a damn heart attack in me.

Long story short, after another stay in the vet (and $1k more), he is supposedly doing well, but has a lower heart rate than normal. He will continue to be monitored closely, but I’m just happy that my Porter is fully mentally back. We just need to get him physically there now!

🐾PORTER UPDATE🐾

We’re officially out of the major critical risk zone now that we reach day 4.

He’s breathing a lot better, showing major signs of alertness, perking his ears to his name, and is able to take a few steps on his own every couple hours. We’re guzzling water, but a little hesitant with food. This could be because he’s on a billion meds that make the food taste gross or his meds could be giving him an upset stomach. I’m being an over protective mom and watching him like a hawk. If he continues to lose interest in food, we will be going back into the vet.

I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of the donations. Each time I look at my Venmo, I’m brought to tears. Your support has been overwhelming and I am so grateful. No matter the outcome, you have helped give my sweet boy a fighting chance, and he is definitely fighting for us!!

Thank you again, and I will keep you updated!

Here is the part where I beg, plead, and appeal to your sympathies.❤️

My beloved puppy, Porter, was hit by a car Friday morning. We thought he had passed, but my husband noticed he was still breathing. He was rushed to the vet and underwent major surgery as his jaw was completely shattered. Porter survived the surgery and is still fighting for his life but it is very “touch and go”. He has suffered severe head trauma and it is unknown if he will be himself again, but I am doing everything to give him a chance.

This is where I beg. I am currently $6000 in arrears to the vets for Porters care with much more to come. I will not stop until Porter stops trying. I will continue to go into debt. With that said, I am going to be putting on a horse camp to help recoup some costs. PLEASE PLEASE share this or enroll your horse loving kids. I promise I will make it a memorable camp for your children.

I am also at the point where I’m not below asking for hand outs. I am going to add a picture of my Venmo link. If anyone would like to donate to his vet care, I would be over the moon with your support.

Thank you for your consideration and please pray for my pup.

I’m going to tell you my biggest secret to being fearful under saddle.

If anyone tells you they aren’t scared of falling off a horse, they either have not ridden enough, or they are dirty f***ing liars. I’m terrified every single time I get on a horse that has a bucking/bolting/rearing problem, yet it’s what I do for a living.

The secret is, you’ll never get over it. You’ll always be fearful. BUT you can trick yourself and turn that fear into another emotion. Fear is just adrenaline pumping through your body coupled with tension as your body is gearing up to take impact. The adrenaline is fine, the tension isn’t.

Horses can feel every part of you move. They can feel you breath, clench you jaw, or white knuckle the reins. That’s when your fear can set you up for failure.

So, in order to relieve that tension, make that ADRENALINE pumping through you focus on an another emotion.

Get Angry. People say don’t ride horses angry. I disagree. Don’t ride horses FRUSTRATED. Frustration makes you irrational and flustered. Anger centers you with a stupid amount of confidence and determination. Did a horse just buck on you because he has gotten away with it for far too long? Time to make him sweat. No, I am not saying beat the crud out of the horse. I’m saying give your adrenaline something to do, get angry, and get that horses feet moving.

How about those highly reactive horses that are just constantly spooking and your terrified you’re going to fall off when they freak out? You can’t turn that adrenaline into anger because there’s nothing to be angry over. They’re just prey animals reacting with a prey drive. Adrenaline pumping? Laugh it off. Look crazy on the horse. Hoot and hauler (that’ll probably help desensitize them too🤷‍♀️). Let the tension roll off of you with a laugh.

It works, I promise. You’ll look a little crazy doing it…But hey, all the best people are.

Please enjoy this video of me laughing while I fear for my life on Tall Boy the Toddler Terror.
