What a pretty doeling out of Rum! And a sundgau at that!!
This girl is huge, clocking in a newborn weight of 4 lbs 9 oz. Last year Rum had quads so I was shocked when R7 hit the ground and it was over. She is almost a perfect copy of Rum, only missing the frosting. I can’t tell if she’s polled yet, but she is definitely brown eyed. With sundgaus being so hard to find, I’m debating whether or not to keep her…what if I never get another sundgau doeling! Decisions decisions….

R6 is a buckling out of CJ. He was born on Thursday, when CJ and Rum decided to kid at the same time, with CJ in the field and Rum in the hay barn 😵‍💫
But anyway, CJ did great. I was surprised she had just 1. She has had many twins, 1 set of triplets, and for the past couple of years single bucklings. CJ always has bucklings. In fact, she has only ever had 2 total doelings in 7 kiddings. This boy inherited practically nothing from CJ; he is polled and brown eyed. She tucks him away in the old goat barn like the veteran momma she is and he lays there quite as a mouse 🐭

Last night my only first freshener this season, Abellona, had twin bucklings. These are Burdock’s first babies!
R5 came out backwards and took a while to come back to life. He is so small. A whole 1 lb and 10.2 oz. For comparison, his dam’s birth weight was 3 lbs 13 oz.
I stayed up with him until 3:30 am, then got back up at 7 am to work with him again. He didn’t stand until 8 am, and then I left for work. I’m not entirely convinced he will make it yet, I am giving a lot of attention. He has not been bottle fed or tube fed tho, so he is giving it his best!

Yesterday, Ginny had triplets in the middle of lunch. I watched all 3 make their entrance. R2, the little red doeling, was completely limp. I went to pick her up, thinking “oh no, we lost one already!” but to my surprise she started trembling. Apparently it just took her a minute to know she was in the world.

⚠️SOLD⚠️
Looking for new herd:
ADGA AGS Purebred Nigerian Dwarf Buck
Location: Piney Flats, TN
DOB: 02/20/2020 (almost 3 years old)
Polled (naturally hornless)
Blue eyed
Registered Name: Wooly Dog Down Missile Man
ADGA: D002117471
AGS: D-107685
Missile has been a great buck for my herd for the last 2 years. He sired all of my 2022 kid crop and will be the sire of most of my 2023 kids. He is gentle, easy to lead, nicely built, has dairy skin, and a good pedigree. Both Missile’s dam and sire have LA scores on file with ADGA, and his dam, Wooly Dog Down CJ Queen Esther 88 VEEV, has even scored as high as Reserve Champion in the show ring (you can see her on Wooly Dog Down’s website). I was originally interested in Missile for several reasons: to improve overall conformation, to add length to some of my more compact does’ kids, and to introduce outside bloodlines (he is originally from South Carolina). I’ve noticed with my 2022 retained doelings he has passed on his structure and am looking forward to seeing how they mature. Temperament wise he is a very people-friendly buck. He is gentle with my does, and when paired in a buck pen with another intact buck he is not territorial. He walks very well on a lead and enjoys being pet and brushed; he easily walks up on a milk stand and holds still for hoof trims. This past spring/summer he lived for 6 months with our cows and weaning calves and did great health wise. He is a buck that does not need 24/7 attention and is very parasite resistant; he has not been wormed since before he came to my farm in April of 2021. Although Missile is black, he does not “brown out” like some Nigerians who are extremely sensitive to lack of copper. This has been an added bonus that I’ve seen passed down to doelings of a couple of my does that need copper boluses on a schedule every 8 months for a healthy coat. Missile is also blue eyed and polled, a major plus for those who hate having to disbud. Statistics on how he passes down these traits can be seen below:

•Total percentage of polled kids: 59%
-Percentage of polled kids out of horned
dams: 65%
-Percentage of hermaphrodite/intersex
issues out of polled dams (polled X polled
breedings): 0%
•Total percentage of blue eyed kids: 63%
-Percentage of blue eyed kids out of
brown eyed dams: 36%
•Total percentage of female kids: 44%
•Total percentage of male kids: 56%
•Total of 32 kids out of 17 dams (7 were first
fresheners)
•Around 15 does are bred to Missile for 2023 kids arriving in April
•I have retained a total of 5 of Missile’s doelings, at least 6 more have gone to homes with registration applications

I am looking to sell Missile for a couple of reasons: I’ve been accepted to a doctorate program starting this fall and need to cut my herd numbers; I have 5 Missile doelings out of 5 different does from 2022 and am hoping to add a couple more from 2023, so he’s worked himself out of a job; I’ve brought in a *B buck and have another arriving from Texas later this year and then I plan to close my herd completely for the next 4 years, so I just don’t see myself needing Missile for more than a couple does because he’ll be related to quite a few; and finally, he’s in his prime at 3 years old and I am afraid if I hold on to him for too much longer I’ll end up keeping him until he’s old. I have his clean test results from 2022 and am looking to sell him before I have to draw blood for my 2023 tests and before my new buck arrives. He is due for a copper bolus and CDT (soon), but everyone’s preferences are different so I will leave that up to his new herd. Photos of pedigrees below. Feel free to PM!
