Since creating Frayed Feather Horsemanship in 2016 I have been blessed beyond belief.
15 year old me made 2 Facebook posts. 1 on my personal page, and 1 in a local Facebook group offering training and lessons. Within a week, I was full, and have stayed full since. Not a single other advertisement other than flyers at feed stores. Not another post. All word of mouth, and quick.
Even with my relocation to Show Low, I only made 2 posts in a local Facebook group. 1 asking about potential interest, and 1 announcing when I was 2 weeks out from moving there. I had a 3 month wait list before I even moved up there.
When moving back to the valley, the only post I made was on my personal page. My waitlist ran for 3-5 months before I could fill it.
It has been a hell of ride, something that I took in stride, with happiness and pride, 7 days a week, for almost 10 years. Something that I firmly believe is God given and demanded. Things like that don’t “just happen”. Especially as we know, not young in this industry either. It’s not “coincidence” or “luck”. God gave me gifts when I was born into this world, and laid out the perfect path for me to earn the success he needed me to achieve. Really, even tracing back to the time I started lessons at 3 years old.
On the exhausting days, I have kept pushing because “all these people were put in my path by God because I am supposed to help them (and their horses)”.
About 6 months ago, God started guiding me on a new path.
So, I have spent the last 6 months thinning out my clientele. Which is something I NEVER beleived I could do…I’ve never been able to turn someone away. All this time, I couldn’t. But it is so funny how energy works, because as soon as I put it in my mind, and put the energy out there, new clientele stopped coming in for the first time in almost 10 years. Reassurance that I heard God correctly.
As of a couple months ago, God gave me some clarification on what this newfound room in my schedule would be for…
Things I really find extreme happiness in with horses. My specialties. My own horses. Again, funny how energy and intention work. As soon as I put it in my mind and put the energy out there, new clients came. But every single one of them reaching out in regard to what I specialize in. More reassurance.
So moving into 2026, I will only be offering specific services. My most exciting…adding ON SITE riding lessons again after almost 3 years without. (I will still be offering OFF SITE riding lessons).

Caught sleeping on the job!
When Rip’s owner would bring her saddle from the trailer to the hitching rail, he learned that meant lesson time, so would lay down.
In an attempt to outsmart him, she would bring the saddle out a couple hours early. After laying for awhile, he would realize it’s not lesson time yet, and get up.
Now, seemingly as of late, it’s about a 50/50 chance if he is laying down when I arrive.
However, his new trick as of yesterday, is when I push him to get him up, is to politely lay down on his side.
As you could assume, that does not get him out of a lesson. But he gets an A for effort and never fails to make me chuckle.

Did you know, a ride in a trailer is quite the workout for a horse? Constantly having to adjust and move to keep their balance, it can be hard on any horse even in the best of shape.
Well it can be especially hard on the older ones. The ones who sit, etc.
Ashley and her family have made the exciting decision to move to OK!
⭐️Their Wittmann, AZ house is on the market!
This means a long drive is coming soon, and her horses need to be in shape to help make such a trip easier on them.
In a world full of “they’ll be fine” consider being an Ashley! Considerate that although they would “be fine,” she has the ability to make it easier for them, and does so.
Being on a good exercise program for awhile, below is Higgins. As an older OTTB, muscle can be tricky to get (and keep). But he has actually put a noticeable amount on his topline, and defined his butt nicely.
Be considerate of your horses today, think of what you can do to help them, even if “they’ll be fine” without. ❤️

My happiest day with a client is our last. Now you might think that’s crazy to say, but hear me out…
From the start, I make abundantly clear to my clients that I am not a “forever trainer.” I will forever be here for you after training, but my job is to teach you skills and build your confidence to the point that you feel capable of conquering any challenge that comes your way.
How many times have you seen someone in an endless cycle of relying on trainer after trainer? The moment they have an issue they throw in the towel and give a trainer a ring? Spending thousands and thousands of dollars over the years and still not feeling capable. That’s not how I do things.
You see, I’m hired to fix problems. But what you don’t see in the fine print of my job description? Building confidence in chaos, the strong desire for you to believe in yourself and your capabilities enough that you know how to apply your horsemanship knowledge in any scenario. Every client of mine, regardless of age, doesn’t leave the program until that point is reached.
That process is different for everybody! Sometimes it takes weeks, months, or even years.
I will forever be here for my clients, but need them to know that they are more capable than they know. More confident than they believe. More skilled than they feel.
So my happiest day with my clients is my last. Because that means I did a good job creating a well rounded, confident and capable team. Not just a temporary fix to a problem. 💙

It is ok if you get referred elsewhere, and it is ok to refer elsewhere.
Again, it is ok to say you are not the right person for the job.
This client horse had been doing well in training, until he had a traumatic incident with the saddle. To be specific, he did a little crow hop, then the off billet snapped, causing a huge pressure shift, so off to bucking he went. Replaced the off billet, and the brand new one out of the package snapped when this poor gelding didn’t even do anything. Talk about reassuring a bad behavior lol. Replaced it again, but now of course the bucking is a reassured behavior, so he started up a little bit. Nothing too crazy, but then he got the stirrup stuck to the fence, meaning of course, he was stuck too.
Based on this incident, other bad behaviors started to come up with the saddle.
For those unfamiliar, my process is very slow. For the horses that need it, it has made a WORLD of difference for them. But some horses don’t need that, and this was one that didn’t need that. He needed a more “rip the bandaid off” approach, which is not my specialty. He needed traditional, older “cowboy” methods without the hard handed aspect of that.
My client did not want anyone else to work with her horse. Although I appreciated the loyalty, I kept insisting that I am not the person for this task and her horse would better benefit from somebody else’s training. Eventually, she reached out to the referral I sent her which didn’t end up working out. But that person referred her to a gentleman named Dakota Bell.
I was finally able to go out to watch a second session, and this gelding is doing awesome with Dakota.
Dakota shares the same mindset as I, open and fresh. Dakota even asked my opinion on how to get his backing more fluent, to which I showed, and the gelding was almost 100% better at it. Between the two of us, but primarily Dakota, this gelding will be successful in any avenue his owner decides to take with him.
But please remember, it is ok to be referred out, and to refer out. Everybody specializes in their own things, and that should always be used to the horse’s advantage.
What a refreshing experience this is so far, to find a local, like minded trainer. I will definitely be using Dakota as a primary reference from here on, and am excited that this horse has found the ideal trainer for his circumstances.

The second picture is probably my favorite one I’ve ever received. When Steve Petronsky sent me these pictures I knew exactly what run and what section it was.
I had the biggest smile on my face because Major and I have been working on rating. Working on slowing down and having a relaxed stride, especially down a rundown. And he did excellent for this one!
The second picture is what pride looks and feels like. A special feeling that we all get, but I was lucky enough to get an awesome picture of it.
Major and I were clean this day, bringing home our first clean shooter $ as a team.

My biggest bragging right with my training horses is that I form such a strong connection with all of them. However, I rarely get video proof of it. I started recording to show Forrest’s owner that he was sad I was leaving, and he let out the sweetest little nicker as soon as I started recording. He watched me like a hawk as I gathered my belongings, put his equipment away, and as I drove away. How adorable is this?
