I wanted to address a question I get quite often regarding grooming appointments: “Can I stay with my dog during the grooming process?”
For the safety and comfort of all pets in my care, I do have a policy that pet parents are not able to stay during grooming appointments. I completely understand that this can be difficult, especially if your dog is nervous or very attached to you, so I’d like to explain the reasoning behind it.
In many cases, and I’ve witnessed this first hand many times, when parents remain during the grooming process, dogs become more anxious or overstimulated because they are focused on trying to reach their person. This can make grooming more stressful for them and can also create safety risks for both the dog and the groomer. My top priority is always providing a calm, safe environment for your pet.
Rest assured that in most cases, once the pet parent leaves, dogs usually calm down very quickly. This also allows me to build trust and bond with your baby much faster, helping future grooming appointments become easier and less stressful for both you and your pet.
That being said, I want every pet parent to feel comfortable and confident leaving their dog in my care. I’m always happy to do a meet-and-greet before your appointment so both you and your pup can get to know me beforehand. I’m also always willing to provide updates throughout the grooming process if requested, and all grooming sessions are continuously monitored and recorded on security cameras for both your protection and mine.
I also welcome clients to come inside, see the grooming area, and ask any questions they may have. I truly do my best to make everyone feel comfortable and informed. While I’m unable to allow parents to stay during the actual appointment, please know this policy is in place solely to ensure the safest and least stressful experience possible for your pet.
Tips for Dropping Off Nervous Pets
• Dogs feed off your energy. Staying calm helps your pet stay calm.
• Quick, calm goodbyes are best. Long emotional goodbyes can increase anxiety.
• Avoid saying things like “don’t be scared” or “I’m sorry.” Dogs can sense nervous emotions in our tone.
• Regular grooming appointments help build trust and make future visits easier.
• Please let me know about any fears, sensitivities, or medical concerns before the appointment.
Thank you so much for your understanding and trust 🩷
