ESM is excited and honored to announce the expansion of our Arizona Division with the addition of associate veterinarian Dr. Gabby GrandPre!

Dr. GrandPre (formerly Solum) was raised on a 40-acre horse farm and grew up showing reining horses. Dr. GrandPre attended Midwestern University for veterinary school and began working with Equine Sports Medicine as a veterinary student in the summers where she found her passion for working with equine athletes. Dr. GrandPre has since completed a residency in Equine Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation through the collaborative program with Colorado State University & ESM.

Dr. GrandPre is excited to be back in Arizona to provide sports medicine diagnostics and care as well as help expand the Arizona rehabilitation division of ESM.

📢Equine Sports Medicine is honored to announce the official opening of their second rehabilitation center located in Scottsdale, Arizona! Situated in the heart of Scottsdale horse country, board certified (DACVSMR) specialist and PhD recipient Dr. Sherry Johnson serves as the managing veterinarian with over 10 years of clinical experience in the professional rehabilitation of high-end equine athletes.

ESM-Arizona is one of only three board-certified owned and operated professional rehabilitation centers in the country (the only one in the state of Arizona) and is the only program  in the world to offer blood flow restriction training.  Enrollment in this program is much more than stall rest, hand-walking and aquatred, and also features high-end physical therapy for the equine athlete that incorporates custom resistance band training, targeted strength training, balance pad work, core physiotherapeutic exercises, retrograde lymphatic compression sessions and proprioceptive stimulation.

Our Arizona rehabilitation facility features state-of-the-art equipment with recovery programs built custom for each patient based on their diagnosis, co-morbidities and athletic goal and timeline. When prescribing rehabilitation, Dr. Johnson considers not only the horse’s original injury, but any secondary functional weaknesses that may be present as well. Each rehabilitation plan incorporates the pillars of physical therapy, and involves strategies to improve balance, neuromotor control, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness and core stability. Dr. Johnson also builds custom off-season strength training programs for the competing athlete and facilitates post-operative rehab care and recovery.
