I’ve been receiving more applications for my Accessible Grooming Program lately, and I just want to take a moment to say this:

I’m really glad people are reaching out. ❤️

This program exists because life happens. Finances get tight. Health changes. Pets get behind on care. Sometimes people love their animals deeply and still need help getting their pet the grooming care they need.

There is no shame in applying.

Accessible Grooming allows me to offer reduced-cost or sponsored grooming appointments for pets who need care, especially when cost, mobility, medical needs, emergencies, or life circumstances make grooming harder to access.

And because more applications are coming in, donations are always deeply appreciated.

If you are in a place where you’re able to give, every donation helps create room for another pet to be cleaned up, made comfortable, and cared for with dignity.

And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this post is also a huge help. It helps reach the people who may need the program, and the people who may be able to support it.

June grooming openings are almost gone! 🐶🐱

I’m working on filling the rest of my June schedule for Open Arms Pet Grooming and have a few spots left for pets who need a little summer freshening up.
I currently have:

🐾June 17 & June 20🐾
Small appointment openings, best for things like nail trims, face/feet cleanups, sanitary trims, small maintenance grooms, or smaller bath & brush appointments.

🐾June 24 & June 27🐾
More open availability for bath & brush appointments, maintenance grooms, full grooms, de-shedding, and pets who need a little extra time and patience.

At Open Arms Pet Grooming, appointments are one-on-one, gentle, and focused on your pet’s comfort. Every full-service groom also helps support my Accessible Grooming Program, which helps make grooming care more reachable for pets and families who need support.

When a pet comes in with matting, the safest and kindest option is often to shave the mats out rather than brush them out.

Mats can pull tightly on the skin, hide redness, irritation, bruising, sores, burrs, ticks, infections, or other painful issues. Once those mats are removed, the skin may need time to breathe, heal, and settle.

After a dematting groom, you may notice:
• Red or irritated skin
• Flaky skin
• Hair loss in areas where mats were tight
• Your pet acting more sensitive than usual
• Your pet scratching or licking as the skin adjusts
• Uneven coat length depending on where the matting was worse

The best way to prevent this is regular grooming and brushing before matting gets severe. If brushing at home is difficult because of time, physical limitations, coat type, or finances, please talk to me. My goal is not to shame anyone. My goal is to help pets feel better and help owners find a maintenance plan that is realistic.

From shave-down recovery mode to maintenance groom magic. ✂️🐾

This handsome little guy and his brother came in last month needing a full shave down, and today they were able to come back for a maintenance groom instead: just a nice cleanup to keep everything comfortable and manageable.
For this appointment we freshened up his face and feet, trimmed his nails, cleaned up the sanitary areas, and helped his original haircut keep its shape without needing to start all over again.

This is exactly why regular grooming makes such a big difference. Once we get the coat back to a good starting point, maintenance appointments help keep pets cleaner, more comfortable, and much easier to care for between visits.

A little tidy-up today helps prevent a big reset later. 🖤🐶
