Pretty proud of Clare and where she ended the college rodeo season. She ended up 11th in her college rode region out of about 140 breakaway ropers. The Lonestar College rodeo region is pretty much central/north Texas. Only the top 3 in the region go to college finals. They battle it out with 5 college rodeos in the fall and 5 in the spring.

Before she left for college we talked about the different regions and if college finals was a goal, how tough her region would be. She didn't care. She WANTED to go to the toughest region. She knew it would make her a better roper in the end.

I'm happy to have her home this summer. It's even sweeter for me, becuase I know next year I will be making a trip to Casper, Wyoming to watch her and her teammates at the college finals!

A Prayer for you Cowgirl

Today I want to say a prayer for the girl nursing a horse with an injury. The season might not look like you had planned. You are taking trips to the vet, planning therapies, bandaging, cleaning stalls for horses on stall rest, up late and up early so you can tend to your horse. It may not be the season you wanted, but it is the season you are in. I believe this will make you stronger. And God still has big plans for you!

🙏Dear Lord, thank You for promising to walk with us through sickness and pain. Send your healing strength my to my 4 legged partner. Help me to let go of my anxiety and trust in Your timing. Give me the courage to face each day and the hope of complete restoration.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Nights like these… this is what I miss about having her gone to college.

I love the mundane, boring work that goes into making good horses. The slow work. Tying them. Getting into their mind. Wet saddle pads. All of it.

Scoring in the box is like doing slow work in barrels. That’s how I think of it anyway. I believe horses are made and problems are fixed in the slow work and box work.

Listening to Clare the other night, made me realize:

🔴 what angle you have your horse at in the box matters
🔴 where your hand is positioned matters
🔴when and how your horse leaves the box matters

Scoring is more than sitting on the box and letting the calf out. Listening to Clare talk about the details makes me realize how much she has learned in Texas.

Whether you are a beginner or just want to fine tune your roping, she would be able to help!

I love having all my college “kids” home!

While in Texas our horses have super nice stalls (12x20) and a turn out so they get outside. However, turn outs are on the smaller side (round pen size), so I love that they get to be home and turned out on a grass 🥰💚.

Did you know there is a new national breakaway association starting? Better yet…. We have a Michigan chapter?

Breakaway is growing and I’m hoping the NBRA (National Breakaway Roping Association) helps roping like NBHA did for barrel racing back in the 90’s.

If you’re interested in roping, then you need to be roping the dummy, A LOT! You need to rope the dummy a ton of hours before you try roping off horseback. The cool thing is, all you need to get started is a rope and a bale of hay. It does not take a big investment to start. But you need to start now!

If you want to learn the right way from day 1, Clare Bjork is doing lessons and can get you started on the right foot.
