Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County

Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, private animal shelter that serves all of Kosciusko County!

We take in strays and owner surrenders of dogs and cats! Come see our adoptable pets! An animal is admitted to our shelter in one of three ways. Many concerned community members who bring us lost animals in hopes we can locate their owner. We partner with both the City of Warsaw and Kosciusko County Animal Care & Control, who has 24/7 access to our facility to drop off a lost animal in a secure lo

cation. Finally, many of our fellow pet lovers surrender their animal to our care because changed life circumstances no longer allow them to give their pet the proper care. All animals that come into the care of the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County are immediately given a thorough assessment.
• Illness / Injury Assessment - We have the capacity to treat superficial illness and injury in-house. For more severe illness and injury, we partner with many local veterinarian offices. For our very young kitten and puppies, we have volunteer neo-natal caregivers who foster them until they are old enough or healthy enough to go up for adoption.
• Spay and Neuter Program: To control the county’s pet population, we spay or neuter every animal in need.
• Behavior Assessment: We do a behavior evaluation to determine how the animal is with people, dogs and cats.
• Vaccinations: We get them up to date on all necessary vaccines. This screening process can take anywhere from three days up to three months, depending on the condition of the animal when they arrive. For those animals who have existing issues we don’t have the facilities to address, we partner with specialized breed rescues or participate in an animal exchange with another rescue organization, so we can give the animal the best chance at finding a fur-ever home. While the animal is waiting to be adopted, our dedicated volunteers help care and socialize our animals by taking them on walks or runs or spending quality time with them in one of our cuddle rooms. We take the utmost care in ensuring our adoptable animals are fit with the right family. When a potential family arrives at the shelter, they meet their possible fur-kid in one of our cuddle rooms. In cases where another pet is already in the home, we encourage them to bring in that pet for a meet and greet as well. Finally, we offer a trial adoption period where a potential owner can host the animal for a short time to ensure the animal is a good fit for their home. We are proud to say that, because of this program, our animal return rate has decreased significantly.

✨ Our vaccination clinic today was a success! ✨

If you missed it, we did LOW COST vaccinations today for the public for the first time! ☺️

19 pets received vaccines/microchips 💪

Check out some of the cuties we got to see today! 😍

🐾 ALSO 5 DOGS WERE ADOPTED TODAY! 🐾

We are so thankful to one of our veterinarians Dr. Woodward, who volunteered his time today to give these vaccinations and microchips! He does so much for us, and we are so appreciative of him!

We also want to thank our staff for making this happen! 💜 They spoke of the need of a low cost vaccination in this county, scheduled the appointments, assisted Dr Woodward with each appointment and some came in on their day off to lend a helping hand.

Step by step we are trying to give back to our community. Thank you for always supporting us.

Look out for more vaccination clinics! 👀
Our next one is July 27th from 10am to 2pm!

If you are on our waiting list for our vaccine clinic, you will be receiving a call next week to schedule in an appointment!

We've posted our good boy Tiger a couple times... and he's had no inquires 😔

He's been in our animal shelter for almost 5 months.
His daughter Luna was adopted last month at one of our adoption events! 🤩

Tiger was surrendered to our shelter as a last resort when his owners lost their home. He and his daughter Luna were very much loved in the home they came from, and it was truly heartbreaking to see them be separated.

Tiger is 6 years old. Tiger is a goofy boy that loves treats, walks, toys and cuddles! This handsome man is 76lbs of muscle and you'll notice if you play tug of war with him! He likes to play chase, and he enjoys a good wrestle! He is a strong boy... except when it comes to large bodies of water. Those are scary! 😂

His owner admitted that Tiger has saved their life a couple of times 🥺 Tiger is a happy guy with a tail that wags when you come see him.

Fast Facts about Tiger:
✨ Housetrained & crate trained
✨ Good with kids and used to live with a baby!
✨ Dog Selective - picky on doggy friends but can live with other dogs with the right fit! Tiger prefers female dogs.
✨ Needs a cat-free home
✨ Neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative!

If you can't adopt, come out to walk him and our other dogs! ☺️ The more one-on-one time shelter dogs can have, the better, and this would really benefit for Tiger with his happy tail!

The Three Musketeers? Close enough! 🤩
Say hello to Grumpy, Hunter and Swiss!

These three sweethearts were surrendered to our shelter early last week when their owner was being evicted from their home. Their family loved them very much, and have owned Hunter and Grumpy for their ENTIRE lives and Swiss since he was a puppy! But their family could not keep them, and with nowhere to go, these three are now up for adoption at our shelter!

Please click on their pictures to read about them individually!

Their owner let us know that:
🐾 All three are housetrained!
🐾 Lived with each other (not introduced to many other dogs so slow introductions will be best when meeting new doggos!)
🐾 Have successfully lived with cats before
🐾 Have successfully lived with older children
🐾 Overall have good manners and love to snuggle!
🐾 Are a little shy/nervous of strangers and new environments but will warm up to you with calm voices and attention!

All three dogs are now neutered and have received their first vaccinations, round of dewormers and are started on flea/tick/heartworm prevention! They will need to come back to our shelter for a booster vaccination but this is included in their adoption fee and at no extra cost! 😊

Grumpy and Swiss' adoption fee is $150.
Since Hunter is a senior, his adoption fee is $75!
Our adoption fees helps us cover a little bit of the medical and general care we put into each animal as a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal shelter!

👉 If you have another dog in the home, a meet and greet is required at the shelter!
👉 If you have cats in your home, we recommend a slow introduction!
👉 We do recommend older children for these guys because that is what they are used to! Older children are better at respecting boundaries. While you can hold them, we're sure they wouldn't want to be manhandled by young kids.

Come out to see them!

❗️URGENT NEEDS ❗️

Due to multiple hoarding situations and overcrowding in our shelter, an unforeseen illness has spread through our Cat House.

To protect the public and our current cats, we will not be adopting or accepting in cats at this time until the ones we have are medically clear!

Our main building with our dogs is separate and clear! This is where we will house public cats for our spay/neuter clinic on Thursday. This is also where we will take in donations!

Here’s what we need:
🐾 Medium / Large Wired Dog Crates
🐾 Cardboard trays (photo below!)
🐾 Sheets and towels!

Until we have a vet come in and evaluate thoroughly, we need to quarantine our felines. We need to separate them and house them individually, so we are in need of wired dog kennels. Medium and large sized dog crates please!

We are also in need of throwaway cardboard boxes. There is a picture attached! We use these as temporary litter boxes for our isolation area all year long, so keep us in mind if you ever see these!

We also are in need of sheets and towels!

Thank you everyone, and we will keep you posted!
There is never a dull moment in an animal shelter! 😂

If you are able to donate, please bring donations to 1048 S 325 E, Pierceton IN 46562!
