At Animal Welfare League, we believe animal welfare starts with accessible, affordable care, and that’s why we’re so grateful for our partnership with Four Directions Vet. 🐱🐶

Once a month, their mobile clinic rolls up to our facility, providing spay and neuter services that help reduce overpopulation and improve the lives of pets in our community. 💉

We’re excited to share that the next clinic will be in our parking lot on May 15th! 🗓️

This partnership is a powerful example of what we’re striving for. Bringing essential programs and resources directly to the people and pets who need them most. ❤️

We’re so thankful for Four Directions and the incredible work they do. This is what we’re about. Working together to create a healthier, more compassionate community for animals and the humans who love them. 🐾

URGENT BARN CAT PLACEMENTS NEEDED!

We desperately need to get 11 adult cats out of the shelter and into safe, appropriate placements — ASAP! These cats CANNOT return to where they were found due to unsafe conditions, and they’re becoming increasingly stressed being stuck indoors. We need to free up cages, and more importantly, give these working cats the life they’re used to — outside with space, fresh air, and a purpose!

We currently have:
• 6 Semi-Feral Cats (not interested in human touch – they just want to do their job)
• 5 Semi-Friendly Cats (tolerate pets on the head, may bond with you over time, but don’t want to be picked up or indoors)

These cats have always lived outside and thrived. They’re not house-cats, and they’re not meant for indoor living. They’re ready to be your natural rodent control team. They just need shelter, daily food & water, and a safe spot to call their own. Ideal for barns, shops, warehouses, or outbuildings.

BONUS:
• Already spayed/neutered
• Vaccinated
• Most are Ear-tipped

There is no set adoption fee, but a small donation is greatly appreciated to help us keep this life-saving program going!

We are continuing to take in cats from the community, and every kennel we can free up makes room for another in-need cat. By giving one of these outdoor cats a second chance, you’re helping twice. The cat you’re adopting and the next one that needs our help.

NOW is the perfect time to acclimate them to a new home, the weather is on our side. Let’s get them out of the shelter and back to the life they love!

💥💥Hey there Kosciusko County!💥💥

We will be back at AWL of Kosciusko County on Thursday, May 15, 2025 to spay and neuter all the kitties! Sign up online at www.4directionsvet.org to secure a spot today! It is definitely pregnant season so please help up prevent overpopulation through spaying and neutering our pet cats as well as our beloved community cats.

As always if not up-to-date on the rabies vaccine then one will be required at the time of surgery for a discounted $10. We also offer other services at the time of surgery including microchips, other vaccines (FVRCP, FeLV), FeLV/FIV testing, and monthly prescription flea and tick medication.

We hope to see everyone soon. Thank you for helping and bringing your cats in, we appreciate you!

🖤🐾Getting to Know Your Tuxedo Cat🐾🤍

If you’re lucky enough to share your home with a black & white kitty, you already know they’re not just cats, they’re full-on characters! Tuxedo cats are active, clever, agile, and somehow always plotting something (usually involving treats or dramatic 3 AM zoomies).

💬 Ever feel like your tuxie is judging you? That’s a part of their charm. They’re sophisticated, a little mysterious, and definitely convinced they run the house. And let’s be honest… they probably do.

✨Tips for bonding with your tuxie:

🐱 Respect the tux. They know they’re fancy.
🐱Learn their body language, they’re expressive and opinionated.
🐱Playtime = love time! They’re curious and clever, so bring on the toys!
🐱Cuddles are on their terms. But when you get them? Absolute gold.

💗What We’re About Wednesday💗

It’s kitten season and here at the Animal Welfare League, that means all hands on deck!🍼🐱

If you stop by the cat house this week, you’ll see two incubators set up, each holding a tiny orphaned kitten who needs round-the-clock care. These babies don’t have mommas, but they do have us. 🩷🐾

Cat house manager Sydney and adoption tech Jayme have stepped up in a big way…taking these fragile little lives home with them every night, waking up every 2-3 hours (yes, even overnight😴) to feed, potty, and love them like their own pets. 💛

👉This is the heart of what we do.
👉This is who we are at the Animal Welfare League

We go the extra mile. Not just during our shifts, but long after the lights go off and the doors are locked. Because every life matters, and every kitten deserves a fighting chance. 🌟

🐾 Factual Friday 🐾

Why Cats Knead ... aka Make Biscuits!

If your cat’s ever “kneaded” you like a ball of dough, you’ve been biscuit-blessed. 🍞🐾

Kneading is a leftover behavior from kittenhood used to stimulate milk from mom. Adult cats knead when they feel safe and cozy, like they did as kittens.

Translation: when your cat is making biscuits on your lap, it means they love you. 💛

🐾What We’re About Wednesdays🐾

Meet Mufasa, formerly known as Simba by his finder, but since we already have a Simba, this regal boy needed a new name to match his lion-like mane and heart.

Mufasa was found at Pizza King in Silver Lake, covered head to toe in painful mats. It took our dedicated staff over 5 hours across 3 separate days to gently shave him down, working carefully to keep him comfortable and safe.

This kind of grooming isn’t just about looks — severe matting can cause infections, skin damage, and limit mobility. Thanks to our compassionate team, Mufasa is now feeling relief for the first time in who knows how long.

He was seen by our vet on Tuesday and will continue healing with us. With plenty of love, soft bedding, and maybe a few extra snacks. He’s also due for a nice, soothing bath just as soon as he’s recovered from his neuter.

This is what we’re about. Compassion. Patience. And showing every animal that they matter.

🚨 URGENT: FOSTER NEEDED FOR ORPHANED NEWBORN KITTENS!🚨

Late last night, 5 tiny kittens ONLY 12 hours old arrived at Animal Welfare League with their placentas still attached. Their mother, overwhelmed and stressed during birth, tragically abandoned them. Now, these fragile babies need a dedicated foster to help them survive.

We’re looking for someone who can commit to:
🍼 Feeding every 2 hours (day and night)
🚽 Helping them potty after each feeding
🩺 Monitoring their health closely

Because of their extreme young age, lack of maternal care, and the poor condition their in, these kittens are at high risk. With the right care, they have a chance. One of our staff members is caring for them right now, but we urgently need help from the community.

At Animal Welfare League, many of our cats have had rough pasts and need a little extra help learning that people can be kind and loving. Some are shy, some are scared, and some just need more one-on-one attention to come out of their shells. That's where YOU come in!

We're looking for volunteers to spend time with our cats; sitting with them, talking to them, playing, and simply showing them that humans can be their friends. The more love and patience they receive, the better their chances of finding a forever home!

🐱How you can help...
✔️Stop by during our open hours to sit with and socialize our cats.
✔️Bring a book or grab one from our shelves and read to our kitties. Sometimes just being present makes a world of difference.
✔️No experience needed - just a love for cats and a little patience.

Important: If you're under 18, you'll need to bring a parent or guardian with you.
