Such an important lesson, learning to let go is a life long pursuit. With our students, we emphasize the release of pressure and doing less with the hands. It's so easy to fall into a habit of forcing and trying to control, but true harmony occurs when you do less and let go (soften) when the horse thinks about the right answer. If we keep asking after that point, they can become confused and frustrated.
The question is - am I paying close enough attention to my horse to see/feel this?
And my students will tell you - I am always telling them to breathe!!
