We can’t take credit for the idea of having doggy mentors—that inspiration came from Dog Squad! We’ve started referring to Tupelo, Reign, and Arya as our Guiding Canines Mentors because “demo dog” simply doesn’t capture everything they do.
While they certainly help demonstrate training exercises, their role goes far beyond that. They show our board-and-train dogs, private lesson clients, and boarding dogs exactly what our expectations are. They help teach many of our rescue dogs important social skills, appropriate play behavior, and the everyday manners that every dog should know.
These dogs are invaluable members of our training team. They help build confidence in anxious dogs, provide clarity and structure for overly excited and hyperactive dogs, and serve as positive role models throughout the training process. Their calm leadership, consistency, and communication skills help other dogs learn faster and feel more comfortable in new situations.
At the end of the day, they aren’t just demo dogs—they’re teachers, role models, confidence builders, and true Guiding Canine Mentors. 🐾
