Did you know that there are different types of training/trainers for dogs?
There are trainers who use "traditional" methods. Traditional methods lean more toward negative reinforcement, aka punishment. These trainers believe the dog will realize the wrong answer gets them an negative response from the trainer. So the dog will be more likely to give the right answer.
There are also positive reinforcement trainers who reward the dog for the right answer and ignore everything with the expectation the dog will work for the rewards and the wrong answers will fade away.
And there are trainers who do a combination of positive and negative reinforcement.
So when you're looking for a trainer, do your research and see if your philosophies gel. Also check on certifications and what they mean. If you and the trainer have different expectations you might be disappointed in the outcome.
