🐾 MONDAY MEOWS: They’ve Already Lost Their Home Once. Let’s Make the Next One Forever. 🐾

Meet Anatole, Kit Kat & Dolokhov. ❤️

🐱 Anatole — 4-year-old Russian/Manx mix
🐱 Kit Kat — 4-year-old Domestic Medium Hair
🐱 Dolokhov — 4-year-old Abyssinian mix

In the middle of July, these three found themselves back at the shelter after both of their owners passed away.

They’re friendly. They’re sweet. And they’ve known what it feels like to be loved and safe in a home.

But shelter life is scary when you’re too young to remember the first time you were here. When the sounds, smells and constant activity are completely unfamiliar. When all you’ve really known is home.

They didn’t do anything wrong. Their whole world simply changed.

Now they’re waiting for someone to give them that feeling of home again. ❤️

Come meet one, two, or all three and see if your home might be the one where they get to spend the rest of their lives — loved, safe and home for good.

They’ve already lost their home once.
Let’s not make them wait too long for another. 🐾❤️

You shouldn’t need us to introduce Holly again. You should know her name by now. 💔

Friday marked ONE. ENTIRE. YEAR. since Holly came into our care.

Holly is only 1 year and 5 months old.

Read that again.

For most of Holly’s life, the shelter has been what she knows as home.

She grew up here. While other dogs came and went, Holly waited. While puppies became adults, Holly became one too—still waiting.

Then, on July 18th, something finally changed.

Holly went into her first foster home. ❤️

https://www.facebook.com/share/1YMXXdawjZ/?mibextid=wwXIfr

She learned what it was like to live in a house. To have a couch. A routine. People of her own. She showed us just how incredible she could be outside of the shelter environment.

Eventually, Holly had to come back.

And once she was back in a kennel, some of those shelter-induced behaviors started creeping back in.

But her foster couldn’t stand the thought of Holly reaching her one-year anniversary in our care while sitting inside the shelter.

So she came back for her. 🥹

And today, we get to show you Holly Dolly—the dog she is when she gets to feel at home.

🐾 Holly is a 1-year, 5-month-old Labrador Retriever mix
🐾 She LOVES to snuggle—and apparently she’s also a hoodie and sweater girl
🐾 She’s food motivated, which makes training much easier
🐾 She’s crate trained and does great when her foster family has to leave
🐾 She now waits by the door when she needs to go outside
🐾 She knows sit, shake and down
🐾 And she’s even conquered one of her former enemies…the guitar. 😂 She used to hate even seeing it. Now her foster’s boyfriend can sit in the living room and play without Holly feeling like she needs to shut the whole concert down.

These might sound like little things.

They aren’t.

They’re what happens when a shelter dog is given the chance to decompress, feel safe and learn what life in a home is supposed to be.

Holly has made so much progress. Underneath the behaviors that can surface after too much time in a shelter has always been this dog.

The snuggly dog.
The smart dog.
The sweater-wearing couch dog.
The girl who just needed somewhere long enough to finally exhale.

Holly has already spent a year waiting. She does not need another anniversary.

Her adoption fee is FULLY SPONSORED, and she will go home with 6 months of NexGard PLUS.

She doesn’t need another kennel.

She doesn’t need another temporary stop.

Holly needs someone to finally say, “You’re home.”

And Holly isn’t the only one waiting.

We are over capacity, and we have so many dogs who desperately need somewhere to go. A permanent home would be grand—but right now, temporary would be pretty wonderful too.

Adopt if you can. Foster if you can’t.

A foster home means one less dog sleeping in the shelter. It gives a dog a chance to decompress, lets us learn who they really are outside of a kennel, and opens desperately needed space for the next dog who has nowhere else to go.

Holly is proof of just how much a home—even a temporary one—can change a shelter dog.

Please share her. Talk about her. Send this post to someone who might be her person. And if Holly isn’t the dog for you, come meet one of the many others still waiting.

Permanent would be grand.
Temporary would be pretty great for now. ❤️

After a year of waiting, let’s make Holly’s next move her last one. 🐾

🐾 EXCITING NEWS FOR PEARL RIVER COUNTY! 🐾

We are incredibly excited to share that Pearl River County SPCA has once again been awarded a $25,000 FIXED for Life grant through the Jack A. and Gertrude W. Wilson Animal Welfare Fund at the Gulf Coast Community Foundation! 🎉

This funding will allow us to provide spay and neuter services to eligible pets in our community beginning October 1, 2026 through March 1, 2027.

Last year, more than 1,400 cats and dogs across South Mississippi were spayed or neutered through FIXED for Life. Programs like this are one of the most important tools we have to reduce unwanted litters, lower shelter intake, and address pet overpopulation at its source. ❤️🐶🐱

We are extremely grateful to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the Jack A. and Gertrude W. Wilson Animal Welfare Fund for continuing to invest in animal welfare and making these services possible for our community.

📣 PLEASE NOTE: We will share information about eligibility, applications, scheduling and other program details as we get closer to the October 1 start date. Please watch our page and website for updates.

And congratulations to all of the South Mississippi animal-welfare organizations receiving funding this year! Together, we can make a tremendous difference.

Spay. Neuter. Save lives. 🐾

🐾 Our PetSmart lineup is READY for tomorrow! 🐾

We have some amazing dogs ready to pack their bags, head to PetSmart, and hopefully come home with YOU! ❤️🐶

If you’ve been thinking about adding a new best friend to your family, make plans to come meet them tomorrow. Sometimes all it takes is one look, one tail wag, or one sloppy kiss. 🥰

🎁 BONUS FOR OUR BIG DOGS!
Dogs weighing 30+ lbs. go home with 6 MONTHS of NexGard PLUS to help protect against heartworms, fleas, and ticks—thanks to the incredible support of Greater Good Charities & Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc.! That’s one less expense for their new family and six months of important protection. 🙌

Can’t adopt? Fostering saves lives, too! With the shelter continuing to face capacity challenges, even a short-term foster can make room for another dog who needs us.

🌈🐾 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🐾🌈

Today, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we remember the pets who made our lives brighter simply by being part of them. 💜

They were never just pets. They were family. They were best friends, constant companions, couch stealers, adventure buddies, and sometimes the ones who understood us better than anyone else.

And no matter how much time passes, the love they gave us stays.

Here in Picayune, we are especially grateful to have a beautiful place where those memories can live on. The Rainbow Bridge Memorial at Shay Park now holds memorial tags bearing the names of beloved pets who left pawprints on the hearts of their families. A cable has also been added for anyone who wishes to leave a collar in memory of a pet they loved.

Each name and each collar represents a story—a life that mattered and a love that didn’t end with goodbye. 🌈🐾

If you would like to add your pet’s name to the Rainbow Bridge, memorial tags are available through https://www.prcspca.org and are locally engraved by RiverBanks Engraving. Proceeds directly support the animals currently in our care.

But today, most of all, we want to remember them with you.

📸 Share a favorite photo of your beloved pet in the comments.
💜 Tell us their name.
🐾 Tell us something you’ll always remember about them.

For all the ones waiting for us at the Rainbow Bridge—you are still loved, still missed, and forever part of our families. 🌈💜

🐾 Meet Theo… AGAIN. 🐾

We first introduced you to Theo back in May. At the time, we hoped his stay with us would be short.

It wasn’t.

Theo came in as a stray on April 1st, and nearly five months later, this 2-year-old, 63 lb Retriever mix is still waiting. His situation is urgent, and we need someone to step up for him now.

Theo is a big baby who loves his people. He knows sit, walks nicely on a leash, takes correction well, and loves attention, car rides, snacks, playing ball, napping in the sun, and simply hanging out with his humans. He was house trained when he arrived, and if shelter life has caused him to lose some of that, we think he’ll catch back on quickly.

Theo has previously been kenneled with other dogs, but currently he prefers his kennel space to himself. Unfortunately, in an overcrowded shelter, we simply cannot reserve single-dog kennels long term.

Six more adult dogs were brought in by Animal Control yesterday alone. More dogs continue to come through our doors, and we are running out of space and options.

Theo needs an adopter or foster NOW.

We’ve also learned more about Theo during his time here. While he can initially do fine around children, after a while they seem to aggravate or overwhelm him. Because of that, Theo needs a home without children or with older, respectful teens. A calmer home where he can decompress and have his own space would be best.

Nearly five months in a shelter is a long time. Theo doesn’t have another five months to wait. His situation is urgent.

❤️ Theo’s adoption fee has been sponsored! And because he’s over 30 lbs, his adoption also includes 6 months of NexGard PLUS to help protect him against heartworms, fleas, and ticks. All regular adoption requirements still apply.

He needs a couch. A yard. A car ride. Someone to throw his ball. Someone who lets him nap in the sun.

Most of all, Theo needs someone to choose him while there is still time to choose him. ❤️

ADOPTED 🎉🥰🐾

🐾 Meet new arrival Eddie! 🐾

Can we talk about how ridiculously handsome this guy is?! 😍 Those warm brown eyes, that shiny black coat, the little white toes… Eddie definitely knows how to work a camera.

Eddie is a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever mix with the perfect mix of fun and chill. He’s still got some of that goofy puppy energy when it’s time to play, but he also knows how to settle down and just hang out.

🐾 Knows sit
🐾 Walks well on a leash
🐾 Good with other dogs
🐾 Happy, outgoing, and social
🐾 Professional head-tilter when the camera comes out 📸

He’s basically past the tiny-puppy chaos but kept all the good stuff—the enthusiasm, the happy personality, and the ability to make you smile just by looking at him.

And seriously… look at that face. Eddie looks like the kind of dog who would be thrilled to go on an adventure with you and equally thrilled to come home and claim a spot on the couch.

Eddie is ready to find his forever family. Come meet him—you might just leave wondering how you ever went home without him. ❤️🐾

🥩 MEET MEATBALL. 🥩
Meathead. Meatloaf. Meat Missile. Meat… you get the idea.

This low-riding, big-headed, muscled-up BEEFCAKE is fresh off his stray hold, and we couldn’t wait to show him off.

We’re still getting to know Meatball, but here’s what we’ve learned so far:

🥩 Humans? Big fan. Loves the ones he’s met.
🥩 Dogs? Ehhh… he hasn’t been impressed with a few of his introductions so far. But if you follow us, you know we currently have an overflowing selection of potential dog friends to try him with. 😅
🥩 Treats? Absolutely. He knows sit! The first treat we gave him disappeared so fast we’re fairly certain it bypassed his taste buds entirely. We told him “gentle,” and the next time he dramatically nibbled off the tiniest little bite. 🙄 Sir.
🥩 Leash skills? A work in progress. He’s 61 pounds of muscle packed onto a low-riding frame, so his towing capacity is exceptional.
🥩 Physique? Beefy—but he could actually stand to gain a few more pounds. Maybe he’s just been in his cut phase. IYKYK. 💪

Whatever Meatball has going on, it works because this boy is an attention magnet. You WILL notice him.

Meatball is ready for adoption and scheduled to be neutered next week. If your life is currently lacking a short, stocky, oversized-headed hunk of meat, come meet him.

Too much with the meat references? Maybe. 😂 But somehow every single staff member was on the same page with this one. One look at him and apparently we all thought: MEAT.

Come get this meaty boy. 🥩🐾
