Latest Update: great transformation from very lame to walking very close to normal.

UPDATE:
This mare is on the mend! Now the difference is more obvious. It’s been 2 weeks since the first video. Now we are making great visible progress!

Pectoral injuries are some of the most painful and stubborn injuries to treat. This one created mild Sweeny in the right shoulder. The pain was using up her calories. At 28 injuries like this can really wreck your weight gain. Believe it or not, this video shows a really positive improvement in her gait. I forgot to take a before video, but trust me, she was stabbing her right toe into the ground substantially. She had very little shoulder movement. The knee had only tiny amount of bend. That’s all very typical with pectoral trauma. They swing the leg rather than bend it. Crossing over of the legs is common as well. But I use all my tricks to break up the adhesions I could reach without being overly invasive. Then I used some of my favorite deep pe*******on methods to get under the scapula some. Because this injury is 6 months old, she might be one of those rare horses I see three times. But she might surprise me and not need a third.

The only thing that hasn’t changed in my life for over 25 years is my love for horses and just over 23 years of treating soft tissue injuries. I still love doing it. The evolution of my understanding has never stopped. I learn new things continually. This was a horse out in Apache Junction on Saturday. I had no idea my client was taking pictures. Those are usually the best ones though. This guy is getting the fresh start at life that he deserves.

My horses have really gotten back to their normal frisky selves. Loose p**p is a distant memory. Both are at a strong weight. Moving very well. They are happy where they are. I couldn’t ask for anything better. It’s hard to believe the old guy is pushing 30 and the young filly is actually 25. I am truly blessed.

The one month transformation…. The top photo in the pairing is upon arriving at the new place. The one below is after 2 weeks. The one in the stall is after 1 month. He’s returned to his normal weight. The hind end looks so much better. He even made new over the fence friends. Yes, that horse is huge. But it’s also on higher ground. He’s always been great at making friends. My mare, is doing well too. I am very thankful.

Well, I was present for the chase part. When I left work, I could hear behind me the unmistakable flapping of more than one flat tire. A split second later, I heard sirens behind me as well. In that instant I understood that anyone trying to run from the cops on flat tires was desperate. That this wasn’t going end well. I followed my gut instinct and pulled into a parking lot and waited about 10-15 minutes. I was in no mood to become collateral damage and miss seeing my horses. 😆 As I came off the access ramp at Jefferson, I saw tire treads shredded and car parts I’m not sure what they were. Then a cop putting flares and tape up. I literally and figuratively dodged a bullet situation by staying calm and acting quickly. Another person I work with was behind them watching in disbelief. I checked in with him to make sure he had avoided the situation. I snapped a photo as I passed the scene slowly and carefully. Maybe it would have been fine if I kept driving. But maybe I made the best decision based on quick thinking. Alls well that ends well.

The shooting happened on Tuesday evening near 22nd and Jefferson streets near downtown Phoenix.

The update on moving my horses! We found a great location. They are super happy. It’s only a 15-20 minute drive from home. There has not been a single water incident. 👏🏾 They have both put on a bit of weight in the right places. Sometimes change is a good thing. At least in this case. I appreciate all the offers and support you guys gave me!

It’s been a while since I posted anything. But here’s something that’s really worth looking at. He was such a good boy for this uncomfortable treatment. It helps that I met him a few years ago, so he remembered me. but the changes are pretty easy to see. He’s feeling quite a bit better today, for which I am grateful.

One week can make big difference on a knee injury. The horse has had 2 treatments a week apart. The alternative was 6 months stall rest. So, if it takes 3-4 weeks, we are still 5 months ahead of the game. 😉
