Granite Mountain Dog Training Arizona Live Life Beyond the Leash

Akira update; Ok so we are officially besties now 😆 It only took a few days and some good snacks because this girl is VERY food motivated.

Akira is settling in nicely and starting to really enjoy working. She’s building confidence every day.

She is still a little defensive when we are out in public, so right now it’s all about practice, practice, practice. More exposure, more conditioning, and more confidence building to help her learn how to relax and make better choices in new environments.

She’s already making progress and I’m excited to watch this girl continue to grow 💕

Okie dokie… meet Akira, 11 months old and FULL of opinions. 😅

This sweet girl came in with some leash reactivity and some very big feelings about the world around her. We’re right at that point where fear and defensiveness could easily turn into aggression if nobody steps in to help her work through it properly.

And let me tell you… she did not think arriving here was a good idea. The kennel? Absolutely offensive. The leash? Suspicious. Me existing in her personal bubble? Questionable at best. There were dramatic Malinois feelings happening immediately. 😂

But here’s the thing about dogs like Akira… underneath all that noise is usually insecurity. Fear. Uncertainty. Not a “bad dog.”

The funny part? The second I actually took her out she was basically like:
“Oh… wait… never mind. I would actually never.” 😅

She puffed herself up again a little in the yard and tried to act tough, but once we slowed things down and gave her space to think instead of react, you could already see the walls starting to crack.

By the end of the night, she was gently eating kibble out of my hand.

That’s how these dogs work. It’s rarely about force. It’s about building clarity, trust, accountability, and showing them the world isn’t nearly as scary as they think it is.

I don’t take many cases like this anymore, but this is a repeat client who trusted me again, and I’m honored to help. Honestly… I already adore this little psycho. 😂

Give her a few days. I’ll show you a different dog.

Also, little backstory… this same client drove all the way down from Utah to work with me again, which means the support and trust behind this dog is already incredible.

Apparently it’s May Malinois Month over here because I’ve got a few more coming in too. Pray for me and my ankles. 🤣
