Granite Mountain Dog Training Arizona Live Life Beyond the Leash

Akira update; Ok so we are officially besties now 😆 It only took a few days and some good snacks because this girl is VERY food motivated.

Akira is settling in nicely and starting to really enjoy working. She’s building confidence every day.

She is still a little defensive when we are out in public, so right now it’s all about practice, practice, practice. More exposure, more conditioning, and more confidence building to help her learn how to relax and make better choices in new environments.

She’s already making progress and I’m excited to watch this girl continue to grow 💕

Okie dokie… meet Akira, 11 months old and FULL of opinions. 😅

This sweet girl came in with some leash reactivity and some very big feelings about the world around her. We’re right at that point where fear and defensiveness could easily turn into aggression if nobody steps in to help her work through it properly.

And let me tell you… she did not think arriving here was a good idea. The kennel? Absolutely offensive. The leash? Suspicious. Me existing in her personal bubble? Questionable at best. There were dramatic Malinois feelings happening immediately. 😂

But here’s the thing about dogs like Akira… underneath all that noise is usually insecurity. Fear. Uncertainty. Not a “bad dog.”

The funny part? The second I actually took her out she was basically like:
“Oh… wait… never mind. I would actually never.” 😅

She puffed herself up again a little in the yard and tried to act tough, but once we slowed things down and gave her space to think instead of react, you could already see the walls starting to crack.

By the end of the night, she was gently eating kibble out of my hand.

That’s how these dogs work. It’s rarely about force. It’s about building clarity, trust, accountability, and showing them the world isn’t nearly as scary as they think it is.

I don’t take many cases like this anymore, but this is a repeat client who trusted me again, and I’m honored to help. Honestly… I already adore this little psycho. 😂

Give her a few days. I’ll show you a different dog.

Also, little backstory… this same client drove all the way down from Utah to work with me again, which means the support and trust behind this dog is already incredible.

Apparently it’s May Malinois Month over here because I’ve got a few more coming in too. Pray for me and my ankles. 🤣

Hey, it’s me Chantel 😅

Sorry I’ve been a little MIA lately. Life and dogs have been keeping me busy, and social media is always the first thing I slack on. But I wanted to pop on here and show some love to our April and May classes and finally get some photos posted!

Arlo had a great start to his training. Today he was introduced to the prong collar, along with clickers and food rewards, and jumped right into work. We ran through his core commands—come, sit, down, place, and heel—and he showed a solid foundation.

His owners clearly put in the work, which makes our job easy. From here, we’ll focus on cleaning everything up, building consistency, and conditioning Arlo to the e-collar so he can transition confidently into reliable off-leash obedience. Big things ahead for this guy.

Welcome Arlo to the pack 🐾😄

This handsome 3-year-old husky mix is with us from a repeat client, and we’re so excited to have him. He’s a rescue from Arizona Husky Rescue (who we’ve worked with on and off over the years), and he came in already stealing hearts—mostly thanks to that adorable tongue that always hangs out just a little bit. Instant fan favorite.

Arlo will be hanging with us for the next 3 weeks, working on basic manners, mouthy behavior, and solid on- and off-leash obedience. We already love this guy and can’t wait to see him shine ✨

We’ve officially got four little babes in the house — two boys and two girls — and they’re settling in nicely. These four will be staying with me for the full experience: crate training, obedience training, socialization, the whole shebang. They’ll be ready for their new homes around the beginning of March, at about 5 months old, coming to you confident, well-mannered, and set up for success.

I’m already getting to know their personalities (and let me tell you… they’re GOOD ones 👀), so if you’re looking for a puppy that’s had a solid foundation from day one, these are going to be absolute gems.

✨ Want a puppy sooner?
Good news — there are boys and girls still available who can go home at 8 weeks old, and I’m offering all puppy owners a discounted board & train program to help you start things off on the right paw 🐾

These pups are shaping up to be amazing family dogs and fantastic active companions — stable, fun, and ready to keep up with real life.

If you’re interested, shoot me a message and let’s chat puppies 💕

Lastly, welcome Ziggy! 🐕
Ziggy is a year-and-a-half-old Lab, doing all the very Lab things… and yes, he’s a looker 👀

His family wants a dog with a strong recall who doesn’t feel the need to meet everyone he sees. He’s friendly — which is great — but now it’s time to put that friendliness on cue so he knows when it’s okay to say hi and when to ignore distractions.

Structure + clarity = freedom. This is going to be a fun one.

Welcome Bogey! 👋

Bogey is an 8-month-old Springer Spaniel here for a 3-week board and train to learn his basic obedience, both on and off leash.

No major behavior issues — just an active pup with an active family who wants a solid, reliable dog they can trust off leash in the future. We LOVE working with families who want to get out and do things with their dogs. Bogey, we’ve got you covered 💪🐾

Look who’s back for her adult training — baby Piper! 🥹🐾

Piper is now fully vaccinated and ready to jump into her 3-week adult training program. She already knows her commands, but now it’s time for the next step:
• impulse control
• building duration
• getting out into public
• working through distractions

The big lesson here is learning that commands apply all the time, in all environments, not just at home. We’re so excited to help Piper grow up and level up — big things ahead for this girl!
