Chele's Cat Care got the call. "We need TNR. There are alot of feral cats here and we have no money!" "We ask, how many? They answer ,"about 40.
Well about 40, turned into, so far, about 60.
During our first couple of weeks we set a few traps and caught, several each week. The first cat was so very pregnant. The other 7 were not. We were told that they were feral. Most were friendly. These "feral" cats were sweet and hungry. The only service provided to these cats was feeding them. That makes them breeders.
The next trip, Adena and Laura got 10. A mix of male and female. Two were lactating.......what exactly does that mean?
It means that those two females had babies and they were somewhere in that ugly mess of a yard.
So now we have two cats who birthed their kittens, got trapped and spayed and we find out that they must be returned immediately or risk the lives of those poor kittens.
Then there were the bottle babies whos mama dropped them in the driveway. Also there were still several litters with their mamas under trailers and in the shed.
This, along with the 3-5 calls that we get every day for help, generally comes from those who can not donate. It falls on us. It falls on the community.
We have about 30 more adults to fix. How many will be lactating females with babies in the field? Then how many kittens will we have to go back for?
And this is one yard....there are so many more!
Chele's Cat Care needs your donations this kitten season so we can clean up yards like this one. It's been a lot of work and there is some much more work to come. And it's getting hot!!!!
