PLACED WITH SECOND CHANCE RESCUE - PLEASE HONOR YOUR PLEDGES OR DONATE https://nycsecondchancerescue.org/donate/

Rye is a 7 month old, 55 pound puppy who is currently experiencing intense fear and anxiety. She was brought to the care center after being found as a stray, likely indicating she did not have a stable home environment in her young life. The intensity of the shelter environment has only exacerbated Rye's fearful nature. She allows little to no physical contact from staff, often bearing her teeth and snapping when approached. Rye also panics and thrashes when put on a leash, making walks extremely distressing for her. It's clear that Rye needs time, patience, and space in order to overcome the trauma she has experienced. At her young age, she would likely benefit from being placed with an experienced foster or adopter who has previously worked with fearful dogs. The ideal home would be adult-only, providing Rye the calm environment she desperately needs without the additional stress of children. Her foster or adopter must allow Rye to decompress at her own pace, not forcing contact or interaction until she is ready. With time, medication if necessary, and the gentle guidance of a patient and understanding human, Rye can overcome her fears and learn to trust again. Though challenging, with the right person Rye can transform into a happy, well-adjusted dog. She simply needs compassion and the opportunity to heal.

Faith has been given with command!

Faith is in grave danger. She can be killed at any moment!

She doesn’t deserve to die. She is fearful when being taken out of her kennel which surely is understandable.

The shelter can be a terrifying place. She had a soft, neutral body during her exam. She was social with the greeter dog and has been social with the handlers at the shelter.

Now her life is on the line. She needs you now, before it’s too late!

All animals at shelters have individual stories, but some have real twists and turns.

Vader came to Pinal about 5 weeks ago after being shot in the head…🥲

yea, you read that correctly…

Sadly, because he was wandering as a stray we have no idea how Vader came to be in this condition. The bullet passed through his eye and fractured his jaw. Vader has required multiple surgeries to save his life first to take out is badly damaged eye and second to repair his fractured jaw. Throughout all of this Vader has been an absolute trooper. Never offering anything but a tail wag and soft kisses.
Vader is now in need of a foster or adoptive home to give him a safe place to recover while awaiting his final surgery. Vader loves people and is a very sweet mellow couch potato. He loves sleeping under our desks and sunbathing in the yard. He is polite on leash and loves to take slow sniffy walks. Vader has been fearful of new dogs while in shelter. Adjusting to life without an eye and a healing jaw can be scary. So while Vader has not been aggressive we recommend he go to a home with no other dogs or calm mellow dogs that can give Vader space to heal and learn how to be a dog.

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. Between work, my household and my rescues I barely have time to think. By no means I’m complaining I love my 4 legged children!
I want to share something that happened yesterday. So Yesterday I came across a plea for help but I was home not feeling well. Knowing how I am I tried my best to find help. No one reached out to help. However, that didn’t stop me from communicating with the gentle soul that was asking for help. And that’s how I met Frank the Cat. It turns out Pamela had been feeding Frank since February when he came to her house where she feeds a dozen of other cats. Frank is a unique character who is trustworthy, reliable and even over protective.
It so happens that Pamela has some health conditions and every time she goes to take the trash, Frank escorts her to and from the dumpster to make sure she makes it home safely. His kinder heart goes to extremes. Just this past summer he brought a pregnant cat home so that she could have her babies in a safe place. All babies found an owner and she found a home. He would sit next to Pamela for her to pet him and to keep her company.
When I contacted Pamela, she was asking for someone to help Frank because he was in pain. He could barely walk since it looked like he had been hit by a car.
Today I picked up Frank the cat and took him to the vet. To Find out that his leg was dislocated but it could be repaired. What good news I thought. Well, it didn’t go as planned. When Dr. Young put Frank under anesthesia to repair his leg it so happened that it was going in right. She decided to make an X-ray and found out he had an enlarged kidney that his other kidney was working extra time and he could go into kidney failure anytime.
We decided that we would not do surgery to repair his leg and put him through the ordeal of a surgery for him to die a painful death. Frank is resting comfortably at the vets office tonight. His mom can’t be with him tomorrow when he crosses the Rainbow Bridge, due her multiple health situations, but I will be there with him.
I share this because even when he was in so much pain he found his way home where he felt safe. Moreover, he brought his mom and I together to what I believe could be a great friendship.
Please keep Frank the cat and his mom in your prayers. I will update tomorrow when I know more and I spend time with this beautiful creature
