Black dogs continue to be some of the most overlooked dogs in the rescue world and honestly, we can’t quite figure out why.

We have so many incredible black dogs at our sanctuary — big, small, and everything in between — all waiting to be somebody’s everything.

Foster Feature Friday!

Eddy has been loving life in his foster home. At 2 years old, he’s past the puppy stage and more than ready to find his forever. 🤍

Best known as a lovable hunk, Eddy loves meeting new people, exploring new places, and getting his daily steps in! He’s sweet, silly, incredibly smart, and always eager to learn new things.

Eddy already has a great foundation — he knows basic commands and door manners, walks beautifully on leash, and is both housebroken and crate trained. And, he’s adjusted wonderfully to apartment living. His foster dad reports that he settles nicely in his crate when left alone and hasn’t barked or whined, making him the perfect house guest.

All Eddy wants is a family who will love him as much as he’ll love them. He’ll happily join you for any adventure, keep you company on quiet nights in, and binge your latest Netflix obsession while he snuggles up next to you.

He prefers to be the one-and-only king of his castle with no other dogs or small animals in the home, though he’s perfectly content passing them from a distance on walks. While Eddy absolutely adores people, his size makes him a better fit for an adult-only home or one with older children.

If you’re looking for a loyal, lovable rottie mix, Eddy might just be your perfect match.

We’ve always believed a rescue is only as strong as its foster base.

Behind every dog that makes it out of the shelter, there’s a foster who said yes—and meant it. Not just when it’s easy, but when it’s inconvenient. When there are accidents, vet visits, behavior challenges, schedule changes… real life.

Because the truth is, rescue is rarely easy. But the dogs we save don’t need perfect—they need commitment. They need someone who will stay, work through it, and not give up when things aren’t ideal. Fosters like that are everything to us.

Salem was saved just that way. If it weren’t for her foster family saying yes, she wouldn’t be here with us today. And not only did they save her life once—they continue to choose her every single day.

When she didn’t immediately fit in with their pack, they didn’t give up. They listened, followed training guidance to a T, put in the time working on structure, commands, and consistency every single day. They worked through the challenges instead of walking away from them. And because of that, Salem is now thriving in their home.

Fosters like this are the reason we can keep saying yes. The reason we don’t have to worry about dogs being returned when things get tough. The reason more lives are saved.

When you commit to a foster dog, you’re not just helping one—you’re making space for the next, and the next, and the next. That’s how rescue works. And that’s how we keep going.

Senior dogs hold a very special place in our hearts.

Some came to us after a lifetime with a family who loved them deeply but faced circumstances beyond their control. Others were discarded in ways we will never understand. Many spent far too long stuck in the shelter system, quietly waiting while the world kept passing by them.

Senior dogs are wise, resilient, soulful and so incredibly easy to love. There is something truly special about opening your heart to one and giving them the chapter they’ve always deserved. Golden years should feel golden. Slow morning walks, sunny spots on the couch and someone to curl up with at the end of the day.

That’s all our seniors are looking for — and the love, gratitude and companionship they give in return will come back to you tenfold.

The dignity of being chosen. The peace of knowing they are finally, truly home. That’s what we want for all of them.

We’re highlighting some of our incredible seniors — Hulk, Blue, Baxter, Capone, Queenie + our newest addition, Roody — each one patiently waiting for their person. And only Roody has been lucky enough to find even just a foster home. If any of these faces speak to you, let us make the introduction. We have a feeling it will be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make.
