I’ll be moving Hallie to a property that has a covered arena so I will get to continue her training soon! With the frozen ground here now we haven’t been able to do too much and she’s been mostly turned out since September. The last couple months have been very busy with lots of miles driving back and forth across the state. I’m so excited to get back into a solid routine with her again. We had a nice little outing around the block today. I love how with these mustangs when you push them a little outside of their comfort zone you can really see and feel them starting to put their trust more in you. She has come a long way, but has still been one to take longer warming up to new things. That just means that when she does get there she’s going to be that much more solid of a horse!

I decided Hallie will be sticking with me a bit longer and not going through the teens and oregon mustang auction at the end of the competition 💕 She’s a special girl and needs more time gaining confidence in the domestic life before potentially going to a new home. I don’t want to send her off before she’s completely ready… if she doesn’t end up staying with me for good!

We’ve been in the middle of moving to the other side of the state and Hallie made the 7 hour trip over with me last night! She settled in amazingly and we went right back to work today! I think she likes her new place!

I haven’t been getting many pics and videos lately but we have recently been working on yielding her shoulders and haunch turns for safety reasons as well as respect, so I’m not too worried about it being perfect yet it will get there with more practice. She still is very guarded touching her belly and legs so we continue to move forward slowly on that. Lots of sending exercises, she sends smoothly to the left but it’s hard for her going to the right as she wants to guard that side of her body. Because of that I’ve been spending twice as much time working on her right side. Lots of standing “tied” practice as well. She really wants to be a willing partner and tries hard! Shes just still not totally sure about me being in her space with my hands on her, we are making progress though!

First time saddling today! She could have been the new poster child for a bronc rodeo poster somewhere for the first 30 seconds, but she came back down really quick and was moving out nicely and listening to my cues.

We had an amazing week 1, week 2 and 3 we’ve slowed down on progress simply because things have come up in life that had to take priority and I haven’t been able to put in the hours I’d like to with her. She’s a very smart girl and is fine with just about anything in her space but still a little leary of me touching her all over still. Things we have worked on and that she’s been very accepting of:
-Being sacked out and touched with just about anything
-Picking up feet with a rope
-moving out nicely with a snug flank rope on
-Throwing the saddle pad on
-Sending, Lunging, stopping, backing
-Trotting over poles
-Haltering and leading
Would have liked to thrown a saddle on her by now but like I said it’s been a hectic past couple weeks and I hope to get back on track now that I have a clearer mind!
