It is the season, BBQ's, fun with friends, and fireworks.
Why are some dogs so scared of fireworks? They hide, shake, and even whine in fear. This can be hard for some of us to understand as it is such a fun holiday for us humans!
Dogs and cats too react to sounds, smells, and vibrations differently than humans do. Their senses are keener than ours and their hearing is 3x the frequency range of humans! They still have the instincts of wild animals even though they are domesticated and we look at them as our friends and family. It's hard to remember they are animals and think and react differently than us.
What sounds like a loud bang to us may sound or feel like an earthquake to them! This makes some dogs absolutely petrified.
So friends, this July 4th please be very kind and most of all patient with your dogs, use two leashes when walking them during the fireworks in case they dart from loud noises, watch the door closely when company is over as they may be less likely to stay inside, invest in a thunder jacket or even just a small t-shirt for security, an Adaptil collar, or contact me to discuss other options to make this season easier for your pets.
