Hi guys, this is the owner Kristin. I haven’t been able to say it out loud because it makes it real, but unfortunately I have to permanently close Kawaii. 2019 was our most profitable year in four years of business and adopted out over 1000 cats total. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t devastated, but I know this past year was way worse for so many people.

I’ve burned through my hard earned savings trying to keep it afloat, I’ve pivoted the business to video game streaming and merchandise and many other things to try and help us outlast COVID. I was rejected financial assistance from the state and federal government and rejected for 10+ grants. I’m never one to give up but unfortunately there’s no way to fix this.

Huge thanks to all my family and friends who believed in my crazy idea and helped me build it from the ground up. Thanks to everyone who worked at the cafe, you all made the store what it was and gave it its heart and soul.

When I opened Kawaii I wanted to open a place that made people happy and changed the world for the better in some way, even if it’s just helping animals. Not sure I achieved that but I’m forever thankful for meeting and becoming friends with all of our wonderful customers and saving so many kitties! You guys kept our little babies company and got them ready to be loved full time in their forever homes! Thanks to all our adopters, volunteers, donators, customers, employees and friends. We love you and appreciate you endlessly and we thank you for letting us into your lives.❤️

That's how many cats and kittens have come through our doors yesterday and today, most of them stray 😔 Below are just a few, many of them too young to eat on their own, and we don't expect the volume to slow down. Our nursery is full, and we need your help. If you've thought about fostering but haven't done it yet, now is the time.

We need 🐈kitten and cat fosters, particularly for young bottle baby kittens, nursing litters (mom and kittens) and for adult cats.

Our little foster, Sushi is finally getting his neuter surgery and vaccinations next week!!! After that he will be ready for adoption!! and I took this little dude in when he was found abandoned and hiding in a car engine! He’s a talker, loves cuddles and being kissed on the head 🥺😭💖 he’s also VERY active and would do best in a home with other kitties! He loves to play and chirp at other cats it’s so sweet! Does anyone need this sweetheart in their lives??I have definitely gotten attached to him!🥺😇💖 thanks for all the recent merch orders too! Since the post office is struggling some orders have been lost or damaged. Let's try this again! Streaming resumes tomorrow. Monday 7/20 with Zelda at 8am, Animal Crossing Lunch at noon (where we're picking Poncho's replacement and you can check out our updated 5 star island), and diving back into the Resident Evil 2 Remake on the Moon Basement Blood Moon at 9pm.
