WELCOME TO THE SJK9 PACK CHARLOTTE 🐾

Charlotte is a 4 month old German Shorthaired Pointer joining us for a 2 month in-home board & train designed to build the foundations every family dog needs — obedience, manners, impulse control, confidence, and the early stages of off-leash reliability.

While Charlotte is absolutely a high-drive working breed, she’s a family dog first. Our goal isn’t just creating a dog that can perform commands, it’s creating a dog that can coexist calmly with children, other animals, guests, and everyday life in different environments.

Over the next two months we’ll be focusing on structure, engagement, leash skills, recall foundations, environmental confidence, house manners, and teaching Charlotte how to balance drive with calmness in the home. A well-trained dog should be able to adventure with the family just as easily as they can settle at home.

We’re excited to watch this girl grow. 🖤

E-COLLAR MYTHS — LET’S TALK ABOUT IT 👇

One thing that separates our approach from a lot of modern e-collar training is that we do NOT use the e-collar to teach behaviors in the first place.

Before a dog ever wears an e-collar with us, they already understand leash pressure, obedience, engagement, markers, and clear communication. The foundation comes first. The e-collar simply layers accountability and off-leash communication onto behaviors the dog already knows.

Why? Because using high levels or relying on punishment to “teach” often creates confusion, avoidance, stress, or even more reactivity. In many dogs- especially nervous, reactive, or high-drive dogs- heavy-handed e-collar use can actually AMP the dog up instead of calming them down.

That’s why we focus so heavily on low-level conditioning and clarity.

Modern e-collars are not the “shock collars” people picture from 20 years ago. The sensation is more comparable to a muscle stim/TENS unit. Most dogs work on levels so low that humans can barely feel them.

The goal is not fear.
The goal is communication.

A properly conditioned dog should associate the e-collar with freedom, adventure, clarity, and engagement- not punishment. Most of our dogs get excited when the collar comes out because it predicts going places, working, and being involved with their handler.

A tool is only as good as the education behind it.
Used correctly, the e-collar becomes one of the most effective ways to safely create off-leash reliability in the real world.

Most dog training fails because dogs only learn in perfect conditions.

A quiet training room.
A fenced field.
A treat in front of their nose.
No real distractions.

Then owners get home and realize their dog still can’t walk calmly past another dog, settle around guests, ignore food on the counter, or listen in public.

At South Jersey K9, we train for real life.

That means working dogs in the environments they actually struggle in:
• Neighborhood walks
• Busy stores
• Parks & public spaces
• Around dogs, people, kids, noises, traffic, and everyday distractions

We focus on clear communication, structure, confidence, and teaching owners how to maintain results long term- not just getting dogs to perform commands for videos.

Whether you have:
🐾 A new puppy
🐾 An overly friendly large dog
🐾 A reactive or anxious dog
🐾 A dog that “knows commands” but doesn’t listen in real life

—we can help.

✔ In-home private training

Tank and Autumn working through heeling, impulse control, and down stays at the Gloucester Outlets today 🐾

Both are extremely friendly dogs, but friendliness without boundaries can become a problem fast in large breeds. Not every issue is aggression- overexcitement, pulling, and needing to greet everyone can be just as overwhelming.

The goal is teaching dogs how to stay calm, neutral, and engaged with their handler in real-world environments 🌎🐕

If your “friendly” dog turns into a completely different dog around distractions, other dogs, or people- that’s where training starts. Message us to get your dog out into the real world with a clear communication system that actually works.

had a great session at today ❤️

Field line Labs were bred to work- but that doesn’t automatically mean they know how to settle, focus, or exist calmly in busy environments.

Training isn’t about shutting dogs down or taking away personality. It’s about giving them clarity, structure, and an outlet so they can confidently navigate the real world.

Lowe’s trips aren’t just “socialization.” They’re opportunities to practice neutrality, engagement, leash communication, and learning how to work through distractions with their handler instead of around them.

Good dogs aren’t born knowing these things — they’re taught. 👊

Big puppy, bigger potential. 🐾

Welcome Cooper and his family to South Jersey K9.

This handsome Great Dane / Pyrenees / Lab mix officially started his Completion Program today- working toward full off-leash reliability, real-world obedience, confidence, and clear communication both in and outside the home.

With giant breed puppies, structure and guidance early on is everything. The behaviors that seem “cute” at 6 months old quickly become overwhelming when you’re handling 100+ pounds of dog. Our goal is to build engagement, neutrality, proper leash skills, impulse control, and reliability now so Cooper can grow into a confident, well-mannered companion his family can take anywhere.

Today we focused on foundations, leash communication, and introducing the structure that will carry through the rest of his training journey.

Excited to watch this big guy progress. 👊

🚨 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION 🚨

Meet Brooklyn — an estimated 2 year old spayed Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler) available through Pinelands Unleashed Rescue Co.

Brooklyn came to us timid, reactive, and unsure of the world around her. Over the last month, she has made huge progress through structure, consistency, and training — and we’ll continue working with her until the right home is found.

At around 35 lbs, Brooklyn is a smaller female for the breed but very typical in personality — intelligent, handler focused, food motivated, affectionate, and always looking for direction. She thrives with structure and clear expectations.

✅ Crate & potty trained
✅ Quiet in kennel setups around other dogs
✅ Good with baths/handling
✅ Neutral around dogs
✅ Environmentally confident
✅ Knows obedience + e-collar communication
✅ Self settles well in the home

Brooklyn has been trained with structure, accountability, crate routines, place command, and boundaries in the home. She responds very well to fair corrections, recovers quickly when unsure, and genuinely enjoys working and engaging with her people.

She would do best in an active, breed-savvy home committed to continuing her training and structure. Brooklyn would likely thrive as an only dog or with a laidback male large dog. No cats.

Brooklyn comes with:
🎓 3 private in-home transfer lessons
🎓 Lifetime group classes through South Jersey K9

We are happy to provide videos of her obedience, training, and how she is inside the home for serious adopters.
