***SECOND CHANCE FOR ASHLEY*** PLEASE MAKE IT COUNT!
***ON EMERGENCY AT RISK PLACEMENT LIST FOR TUESDAY 09/30/25 DEADLINE IS NOON.*** SHELTER IS OVERCAPACITY. WATCH VIDEO - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-WAm7icGQ0
Ashley is on the at-risk list due to medical concerns. Ashley is a young cat who has developed a severe URI in the shelter. She is not eating, but has allowed all medical handling for supportive care. Ashley needs more individual attention and a quiet environment to heal. She is still seeking attention despite the severity of her condition and enjoys head scratches.
A volunteer writes:
Ashley is a rubenesque and well rounded figure in every way. She is welcoming and friendly, gives a tour of the community room(where she resides) to her visitors and very much appreciates gifts(like temptations and squeeze ups) and brushing. I love her luminous almost yellow eyes, her cheeky cheeks, the little white tuft on her chest and the silvery lining enhancing her grey dress and in particular her feet. She is a kitty with character and likely would do better with another friendly, cat loving and confident housemate. She feels a little lonely right now in her vast room and we are hoping that soon enough, another feline will join her. Of course, even better...a wonderful adopter will come along, meet Ashley, fall in love with her and take her home as a forever best friend! Ashley is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.
What my friends at ACC say about me:
Ashley is very sweet and came forward when offered treats. She allowed and enjoyed all petting, purring gently while being pet on her cheek and along her back. She ate squeeze-up treats, and during a partial pick-up she grumbled and struggled somewhat. It has been reported that during a previous attempt to put her in a carrier she became extremely agitated, rolling around, vocalizing, and attempting to bite. She should be put on a specific plan for acclimating to a carrier that would be linked in the behavior assessment.
Ashley interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in reactivity to being picked up and placed in a carrier.

Behavior History
Behavior Assessment
KNOWN HISTORY:: Ashley was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/16/25 FB47
Ashley was in the den and easily moved to the free roaming room. She curiously came out of the den and began exploring the room, allowed petting and had a partially raised, quivering (happy to see us) tail. She explored all over on ground level and appeared to be making a nice adjustment to the room. Later she came over to us with a raised tail and looked out the door. A little while later Ashley had well adjusted to the room and is calm and affectionate. Then we returned and she was doing really well, calm and affectionate.
When we added Maple Ashley fixated on her and began hissing and growling from about 4-5 feet away but did not escalate and she could be distracted shifting focus. In time Maple came out of the den slowly exploring with a low body after meowing gently in the den. After a while Maple came very close to Ashley and Ashley sniffed her tail and then hissed at her but Maple slowly passed by. In time Ashley’s body relaxed and she began laying gently and they each in turn explored parts of the room. Up to now Ashley is still giving hisses but both cats have seemed to reach an accommodation and Maple remains respectful.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Affectionate,People oriented,Easy going
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Uncomfortable with pick up,Carrier aversion
Potential challenges comments:: She grumbles and hisses when picked up but tolerates it to a degree but is reported to become highly agitated and upset when attempted to be put in a carrier. It is highly recommended that she be trained using this series of youtube videos which are excellent at carrier training. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=312rWq09d7M&list=PLp5A851vjwHBPxfmLMZEhKNb2eugQnL-u
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Ashley is very sweet and came forward when offered treats. She allowed and enjoyed all petting, purring gently while being pet on her cheek and along her back. She ate squeeze-up treats, and during a partial pick-up she grumbled and struggled somewhat. She is very affectionate and almost closes her eyes when being pet and gives nice slow blinks. She is very sweet. It has been reported that during a previous attempt to put her in a carrier she became extremely agitated, rolling around, vocalizing, and defecated in the carrier. She should be put on a specific plan for acclimating to a carrier that would be linked in the behavior assessment.
Ashley interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. We recommend that she go to a home that is well counseled in reactivity to being picked up and placed in a carrier (see linked YouTube videos).

Unfortunately we had to remove all the hyperlinks to their websites to see if this was the reason our posts kept getting flagged from FB. The one main link will bring you to many of the ACC outlets of their page such as what we have posted below.
Emergency At Risk Placement list, Emergency outcome list, Location and Hours, List of New Hope shelter rescue partners - You will have to navigate through their site. If you type in nycacc (with out the and) .org all in one word into your browser it should take you onto their main site. You will have to navigate through their site depending what you are looking for. Unfortunately we can't do it here as it creates the direct hyperlink to their site which may be the cause of our posts being flagged by FB. We hope this solves the issue for us.
