Introducing our latest twist on the brass knuckle assembly for our scratch aprons. Unlike the usual single leather strap through one hole, we split each strap into two. It’s definitely a more complex design but it’s cleaner and stands out visually—another original take from us. It’s still function over form, with our signature two-ply leather, reinforced and built to last. This is just another step in pushing design forward—original, functional, and made to perform.

Our scratch aprons are built just like the rest of our gear—overbuilt and meant to last. We use a modular system: the leather apron itself is designed to be swapped out when it wears down, but the reinforced leather straps and brass hardware remain. So instead of replacing everything, you keep the structure and just refresh the apron—sustainable, practical, and built for the long haul.

A lot of what I do isn’t just custom—it’s built to order. I start from scratch every time, so each piece is purposeful. Take this apron: unlike the one-size-fits-all throwaways, mine are built to represent the decoy’s investment in their craft, the safety of the dogs, and the professionalism behind every session. Because it’s built to order, we get the sizing right and refine the details.

I’m always adding innovation—like a modular design that lets you swap leather or keep your custom straps, and I’ve added a universal

When I think about investing in my craft, I think about people like Dave Santiago Watching him decoy reminds me it’s not just about the gear—it’s about the dedication behind it. Sure, he’s got the equipment, but what sets him apart is the time and commitment he’s put into refining his craft. He invests in himself—whether that’s sharpening his skills, prioritizing mental or physical well-being, or selecting equipment that keeps the dogs, the environment, and everyone safer. He’s always elevating what he does.For me, it’s the same. I’m constantly learning, designing gear that protects both dog and handler, and focusing on the details others might overlook. It’s not about how much you spend—it’s about becoming better, safer, and more professional every day. When you invest in yourself, the results speak for themselves.

It hits different when a client takes the time to hang one of my harnesses with that level of care.

Moments like this really drive home why I do what I do. I pour everything I have into each piece—the design, the materials, the construction, and countless hours thinking through every detail. Not because it’s just gear, but because I believe the things we use every day should be built to last. This harness was designed to outlive trends, hard use, and hopefully even the people who own it. That’s the point.

Long after the walks, the training sessions, the road trips, and even long after their dog is gone, this harness will still be there. Not just as a piece of leather, but as a reminder of a time in their life and the memories they made together.

Seeing a client treat one of my pieceses with that kind of respect is something I’ll never take for granted.

If you’re not into overbuilt or highly engineered designs, you might want to skip this post. I set out to do more than just attach hardware to leather—I created a harness dee ring assembly that spreads out force so no single point is overworked. The steel plate distributes load evenly, protecting the leather. Instead of one fastener bearing the load, it’s spread across multiple points and planes. I also designed it to resist twisting, even under a strong dog’s pull. Ultimately, if anything fails, it’s further down the strap—this is more than functional; it’s a real step up in durability for working dogs.
