Collin visits SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals once again to teach adoptable Arya to play the "place" game.

Teaching dogs to go to a place can be very useful for a variety of reasons and training situations. It can help dogs learn to have positive and calm associations with the spot that we teach them to go to, and they will often end up going there and relaxing on their own once we introduce the game. It can also be a great command to redirect a dog in a home environment as you practice, for example: if they get excited at the arrival of guests, the ring of a doorbell, or if they get too excited, jumpy, or mouthy at times, especially during play, or leashing up to take a walk. This game can also help dogs learn to feel better about walking into their crate as well! 🐶💘

Collin visits SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals to spend some time teaching adoptable Snickers how to come when called.

Reliable "recalls" - or commands that call your dog to you - can be difficult to achieve without going through the right steps. Start in an easy, familiar setting with minimal distractions and distance between you and your dog. As they get used to the game and you move on from luring, start increasing your distance over time, as well as the number of distractions present nearby. Practice in different settings as well to really help generalize the game and make it work everywhere!

Collin stops by SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals to hang out with adoptable Smarty Jones and demonstrate some easy techniques to teach dogs to have positive and calm associations with human affection and physical contact.

Many dogs like affection already, but it can be so exciting that it makes it hard for them to function and stay calm! If a dog is more fearful or nervous, remember to take it slow and let them have the option to choose whether or not to approach and interact with you.

Please like, subscribe, and comment if you enjoyed this video to help us help more shelter dogs like Smarty Jones! 🐕💜🦮💜🐕‍🦺
