I don’t even know how to start this post. I’ve been crying for almost a week. My XL King just turned 7 months old. He’s such a loving playful big baby. BUT he has food agression towards OTHER DOGS ONLY. Not humans, whatsoever. I have 5 children and 3 of which are 5 & under.
He’s never once snapped at them. We can put our hand in his bowl, take his food, bones toys etc. it’s strictly against other dogs. I first noticed it when he was first brought home, over a bone. I get it dogs can be this way.
I have 3 other dogs, 2 of which are very small, a 3 year old toy poodle & a 10 year old chorkie. Males, neutered. An one pocket bully female. Who just had her 2nd litter.
He also gets along with cats too. I have 2 kittens. He spent a month at a board and train for obedience & was started on protection. Only reason the protection wasn’t completed was because he wasn’t matured enough & my trainer didn’t want to break the puppy completely out etc.
He is fully house broken as well. When I seen him at 12 weeks on this page I knew he had to be mine, so we could add him to our family/kennel. We drove all the way to Illinois from Alabama to get this boy.
I’m in tears typing this. Unfortunately the food aggression has gotten worse which resulted in him buying my chorkie, to where I had to take him to the vet (won’t go into detail) but he’s on antibiotics & anti inflammatory to clear things up an is recovering well. It was all over food and food ONLY.
He is completely fine with the other dogs as long as there isn’t food involved. I do feed separately.. this incident happened when I was feeding my son in his high chair, an there was a few scraps left so without thinking I knocked it on the floor like usual for the pups to get a bite (it was chicken) an it happened so fast.
If I didn’t have kids who are constantly getting snacks etc an dropping scraps when they eat it’d be a little more avoidable 🥺. I don’t believe in throwing a dog in a backyard or kennel. That’s my opinion I know, but all my animals are inside/outside. He absolutely hates kennels and has since I got him, he roams free an sleeps on a dog bed next to my bed.
This wasn’t the first time he snapped, (first time that I had to make a vet trip) but he also snapped at my poodle a couple times an luckily the poodle wasn’t harmed. Like I said it’s STRICTLY food aggression nothing else.
He’s going to be a beast. He’s 100 pounds currently, weighed in 2 weeks ago at the vet. I can provide all ped info to people if interest. He IS NOT CHEAP, far from it. An I will be EXTREMELY picky who he goes too. I payed a big💰 for him & we got the training done which was 3000 dollars alone. He needs to go to someone who can take the TIME he deserves to possibly break this food aggression/be able to have time to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Unfortunately with my life, an my situation, with my kids and other animals it would be almost impossible for me to prevent something from happening again. So instead of being selfish and throwing him in the backyard (that I have that’s fenced in) I’m rehoming him to someone who will let him be inside as FAMILY, an outside when he pleases. He will make a hell of a stud dog in the near future!!
I’ve been very very emotional about this. So please no negativity ♥️
I want the absolute best for him & I will find it as I am in no rush.
There is one pic of his dad & mom in here as well.
