I got the logo painted on the wall. All that's left is the name. This is the office and rehab center at CTTR in Pflugerville. Making improvements all the time. Yes, this is volunteer work at its best.

These two new enclosure are 200 square feet each. We built the cinderblock walls Monday afternoon. Put in one plant each, hides and water dishes, and the logs in just a few minutes Tuesday morning. Then put in 11 plants in 1 hour today. We had to work around other commitments, but completed in less than 6 hours. Yes they need more shade. If you own tortoises you know the enclosure becomes a never ending work in progress hobby.

We only require 100 square feet for box turtles, Russians, and Greeks. Many of our juvenile sulcatas can live in a 200 square foot enclosure for a few years before they need your 3000 square feet space. This all means you could have an enclosure ready in a weekend and adopt a tortoise. Don't wait. Go ahead and do it.

This poor sweet girl was likely hit by a car some weeks before she was found on the side of the road in south Waco. The kind finder drove her one and a half hours right then to our Pflugerville location. Somehow this tortoise survived the accident but still needs a lot of medical attention. She came with a broken spine but the spinal cord is in tact. The soft tissue covering her lungs is exposed and she has some small open wounds that had ants on them. The shell will not grow back.

With our veterinarian, Dr. Louth, we are treating her with antibiotic shots and pain injections daily for 14 days, giving her a daily soak, flushing out her wounds very carefully, and putting prescription antibiotic cream on the open wounds. The large wound is covered in this cream in some of the photos. We will only do small areas in the cream after today.

Summer Day tortoises

Aw the cuteness to be seen on a summer day when you have tortoises. Jim, the small sulcata is loving the hibiscus flowers that fall in his enclosure. 22-yr-old Boris, the Greek munching on cactus, and Sora, enjoying a cool drink of fresh water as she lays by the pool side. Aww, the leisure life, to sit in the shade and learn to slow down and enjoy.

We joined the Pflugerville, Texas Chamber of Commerce! We are excited at the opportunity to network in our area.

Since March 1, 2026 we have had
74 intakes,
60 adopted (81%adoption rate)
2/7 strays returned to owner.

In the past 12 months we have had
202 intakes
181 adoptions (89% adoption rate)
7/26 strays returned to owner

This means we have 11-19% of all intakes are not adopted, hence, stay with us each year. So, we need over 100% of intakes adopted this year to keep from being at capacity all year round. We are slowly becoming like dog and cat shelters; at capacity and at a point we can only take in strays.

Help us continue to be able to take in all tortoises who need us. Help us get more adopted, find more adopters. Tell everyone you know to adopt don't shop! Don't get a pet without learning how to care for it first, have a plan for lifetime care, have the right, secure environment.

Most of the tortoises we get are due to the owner buying without learning first. The sellers tell them what helps them make a sale, not the truth of the animals needs. Help us stop this cycle.
