I have been really camping out on everything I learned at the herbalist workshop yesterday. My biggest takeaway is that everyone should not have some sort of diagnosis. Everyone shouldn't have a chronic illness. So many do, but we are what we eat. The chemicals, artificials, preservatives, herbicides, pesticides, lifeless sod lawns, all of it is wrong. We have got to get back being part of nature again. WE ARE PART OF NATURE. We are but one species on a planet shared by tons of other species, and we have got to remember that.

What a fantastic workshop! I learned so much and can't wait to forage my own yard for natural medicine 💚 I also loved how clearly she explained the medicinal aspects of everyday culinary herbs. I am always looking to expand my knowledge so I can share that with my clients in their own gardens.

The next native project is this shady space in a backyard. First things first, remove the hydrangeas per client request, and pull out all that old landscaping fabric. Phase 1 done! Next phase is planting!

One of the common questions I ask at every consultation is about SUNLIGHT. Knowing your sunlight is crucial for knowing where to plant your garden! I spent today at home, washed my truck and did some piddlin'. I also took panoramic pics throughout the day of my backyard to see where the sunlight is so I know for sure where I want to plant my summer garden. At least 6 hours of sunlight is ideal for any of your seasonal veggie plants. See how shady my yard is? Took me 8 years to finally accept that 🤣 with that hazardous oak tree gone on the far left I finally get 6 hours of sunlight there. As the days get longer the hours of sunlight there should increase. I can estimate this because the trees have leafed out, so the shade I have is bout all there should be. That's why I want to put my nursery greenhouse over there.

These are the types of things I take into consideration at consultations, too. When you have a nice sunny day at home, pay attention to where the sunlight hits your yard, for how long, and the shadows. Take note of where the yard puddles or floods when it rains. Get to know your space! In 8 years here I've gained a ton of experience in tracking the sunlight. I can help you get to know yours and plan for success with your garden.

Let's talk in-ground gardening! Also, when I talk about seeds I mean direct sowing seeds, vs buying starter plants lol

Checking on the native pollinator bed we planted this week and giving it a good drink before the next couple weeks with no rain. Everything looks great! Message me if you want to grow your own food or transform your space into an ecological pollinators' paradise! 💚💚

Normally we do edible garden jobs, but today we finished up a big pollinator bed transformation! Minus a sweetspire shrub that we'll plant once it grows some more in its pot lol. We tried to focus on plants that would feed our native pollinators with a blue and yellow color scheme for the client. I can't wait to see how everything grows and fills out over the next couple years!
