I've finally gotten most of the things I was waiting for before I made this post.
So...here it is...our first official Nationals recap.
We started the week with 3 distance jumps and 1 Hydro Dash run in the Last Chance Qualifier. Unfortunately she did a little TOO good in her distance and jumped into the bottom of the next division up. We've been in this boat all season. Bouncing between high Senior scores and low/mid Master. Her biggest jump was 21'3 which is close to her Personal Best. I can't be upset with that. Lol
The noise level at the beginning of the week wasn't extremely loud. We've competed a lot at an indoor facility so she wasn't new to the echos and weird lighting. Thankfully she wasn't fazed by the colder water either.
When it was time for our Hydro Dash run I was a ball of nerves. We had a 50/50 shot of getting a run. Honestly, I didn't care what she ran...just as long as she ran complete. We've been struggling with her panic in the water for almost 6 months now. And we're still no closer to figuring out what the problem is.
To my surprise she pulled out another new Personal Best of 13.634 seconds!
Thursday came and I was second guessing my choice to let her do Air Retrieve. We had to start at 18' and I wasn't very confident in her ability to start that far out. But we hadn't run it in months and it is by far her favorite game. So I figured wtf. Lol And that's all I'm going to say about that. She tried so hard but just couldn't hit it.
Friday finally arrived and I was nervous about how well things would go with her Hydro Dash run. Not catching AR the day before left her wanting that bumper and I knew it could help a lot. Like a pro who has been doing this her entire life, she swam her little but off and hit ANOTHER Personal Best time of 13.431 seconds!! I get chills watching her swim this run. She just looks so effortless once she hits the water!
I wasn't even stressed when she decided on her 2nd run to panic and turn around mid-pool. I was able to easily call her out of the pool and she didn't seem to confused so I thought we'd be ok.
We found out at the end of the day that her time had been enough to put her in the top 10 finals for the fastest division in Hydro Dash. This earned us one more chance to run a faster time.
Unfortunately she panicked mid pool again and we were left with our original time to stand up to some amazing dogs. But I didn't care. We had just been good enough to make the top 10 fastest dogs!!!
889 dogs had Hydro Dash runs in 2021
195 dogs ran successfully at Nationals
Ripplee officially ended up in 7th place.
To some 7th may not be a big deal but to me it's just as good as 1st!
At the end of the day her scores in everything else were right where I expected them to be. She handled the noise and overstimulation fairly well.
I was also extremely surprised at how well she handled her massage and PEMF treatments from her new bestie, Lisa! Letting another person touch her that way was HUGE! She's come such a long way and gained so much confidence!
I loved getting to spend all week with our dock diving family. We only see them for a day here and there so getting to see their smiling faces every day was a highlight!
I'm so proud of my girl and all that she has accomplished this season. We've worked hard to be where we are and I'm excited to keep working.
The hard work has always been worth it!
