Strong foundations start with proper nutrition.

After foaling, a mare’s nutritional demands increase significantly as she supports both her own condition and milk production for her growing foal. Proper nutrition during lactation goes beyond simply feeding more hay. Balanced energy, protein, vitamins, and minerals all play an important role in healthy development.

Integrity Mare & Foal is specially formulated to support mares during lactation and growing foals through every stage of early development.

Most weanlings are either overfed or underfed. Very few are fed correctly.

After weaning, many feeding programs swing too far in one direction. Some push for rapid growth, while others rely too heavily on forage.

Here is what most people do not realize.

Feeding for faster growth does not make a horse bigger. It only gets them there sooner, and can increase the risk of growth related issues.

On the other side, underfeeding can limit a young horse’s ability to reach its full potential.

A balanced approach matters.

Weanlings perform well on diets that include quality forage and a balanced formula like Integrity Mare and Foal

Growth is not something to rush. It is something to manage.

Not all hay is the same, especially for young horses.

For weanlings and yearlings, forage plays a major role in gut health and development, but the type and form matter more than most people realize.

Long stem hay or pasture is preferred to support proper gut function and microbial balance.

Here is where mistakes happen.

Processed hay like pellets and cubes may seem convenient, but young horses do not yet have a fully developed hindgut. Smaller particle size can affect digestion and how nutrients are absorbed.

If used, processed forage should be limited and not replace the majority of the diet.

It is also important to keep alfalfa balanced, no more than 50 percent of total forage intake, and avoid grain hays where starch levels can vary.

30 Day Transformation Challenge.

Meet Dolly, a 5 year old Quarter Horse in our 30 Day Challenge.

Nevada winters can be tough, and Dolly came to us needing extra support. She was underweight and her coat was lacking the healthy shine we wanted to see. With a consistent feeding program and proper care, our goal was to help bring her back to looking and feeling her best.

Now at week two, Dolly is already showing noticeable progress in her condition, topline, and overall appearance. She is doing amazing and already looking like a completely different horse.

Dolly’s owner is currently deployed with the Air Force, and our goal remains simple. Have Dolly looking and feeling her best by the time she comes home.

This transformation is made possible with the support of Integrity Horse Feed and Snyder's Pinenut Livestock Supply, along with the hands on care from Damuth Performance Horses.

We will continue sharing progress updates throughout the challenge so you can follow the difference a structured nutrition program can make.

For more information on our 30 Day Challenge, visit Snyder’s Pinenut Livestock Supply with locations in Gardnerville, Fallon, and Winnemucca, Nevada.

Why is my horse not finishing feed?

It is not always picky behavior especially in senior horses.

Dental changes and chewing discomfort can make eating harder than it looks.

Feeding adjustments can help improve intake and overall condition.

Thinking about switching to hay pellets?

Keep the 50 percent rule in mind.

At least half of your horse’s forage should remain long stem hay to support proper digestion, hydration, and gut health.

Pellets can be a useful addition, but they should not replace the foundation.

As explained in Dr Bray’s Corner, the form of forage impacts chewing, water intake, and overall gut function.
