🎉 After 31 Years… Debbie is Retiring! 🎉

This week, we say goodbye (sort of!) to our incredible Hospital Administrator, Debbie Hill, as she steps into retirement. Debbie has dedicated over three decades to our hospitals—leading, mentoring, and shaping not just our teams, but so many others in the veterinary industry.

She’s been a true educator, generously sharing her knowledge and raising the bar for veterinary management.

Her last day as Hospital Administrator is this Thursday, but she’s not leaving us completely—Debbie will stay on behind the scenes as our Financial Officer.

We’ll be celebrating her amazing career at our Summer Party next month, but if you’d like to send her a message before Thursday, now’s the time!

Thank you, Debbie, for everything you’ve done and all the lives you’ve impacted. 💙🐾

What's one thing you can do to make vet visits less stressful for you and your cat? Using the correct cat carrier!

Features to look for:
🔹 A removable top allows us to examine shy kitties in their carrier, where they likely feel safest
🔹 A removable front gate allows us the widest range of movement when examining a cat in their carrier
🔹 Hard plastic carriers are the easiest to clean and disinfect in case your kitty has an accident during travel

Making it comfy:
🔹 Covering the carrier with a towel limits visual stimulation and helps your kitty feel more protected
🔹 Spraying Feliway on bedding and the covering towel at least 15 minutes prior to leaving helps reduce stress by reproducing kitty "happy message" pheromones
🔹 Including soft, familiar bedding in the carrier can help your cat feel more comfortable and at home, with scents they're used to

Other tips:
🔹 Leave carrier out in a room where your cat spends a lot of time. Only bringing it out for vet visits and other travel means it's a visual trigger that it's time to be stressed, making everyone's lives more difficult. It's best if your kitty loves their carrier!
🔹 Include a favorite toy when traveling—sometimes just having something familiar and fun along for the ride can help reduce stress!

It's All-American Pet Photo Day! Here's some tips on getting your furry friend's best side:

• Getting your pet to look at the camera can be tough; using treats or toys to direct their attention to where you want it can be helpful!
• Some pets aren't comfortable posing; snap pics when they aren't paying attention or doing something that holds their full focus.
• Don't forget your camera has a zoom function - utilize it!
• Change up your angles; going low or high and experimenting can get you the perfect shot.
• Stay patient—pets won't always do exactly what you want when you want them to. Take a deep breath and try again later if your pet isn't being cooperative!

Good luck getting the perfect photo of your fur babies, and tag us in your favorite snaps! 📸

How many of you are celebrating World Chocolate Day today? 🙋‍♀️

While you're enjoying your tasty treat(s?—we're not judging), remember to keep it out of reach of your pets! While most people are aware at this point that dogs can't have chocolate, did you know that cats actually can't ingest it either? Here's why:

In the simplest language, there is a molecule in the makeup of chocolate that can cause toxicity when ingested by cats and dogs. Some products can also contain caffeine, which is another common pet toxin. When pets ingest chocolate (even if it's only a little), it can cause organ function changes that can radically affect their health later down the line, along with other issues, so it's important to call your vet ASAP so they can assess whether they need to come in,

Things your vet will want to know:

⏰ When your pet ate the chocolate
⚖ Approximately how much was eaten
🍫 The cocoa content of the chocolate (dark chocolate can be more dangerous than white chocolate, for instance)

Symptoms can occur within 2-4 hours of ingestion and may include vomiting, diarrhea, panting, excessive thirst and urination, heart issues, tremors, and seizures, so it's important to have your pet seen by a vet as soon as possible!

Sharing may be caring in most circumstances—but not when it comes to your pets and chocolate!
