SLEEPYTIME SHORT BREAD
Ingredients:
5000 mg valerian root
1 bag of camomile ( Badilla is the brand) GROUND FINELY
240 mg of melatonin
Honey
Whole wheat flour
One box or four cups of organic low sodium chicken broth.
Pour chicken broth into a pot and there are two ways to add the valerian root.
1) open every capsule and stir in
Or
2) pour all the capsules into the broth, let them open , then skim the gelatin capsules off the top.
(If you don't do this, it's like glue, hardens the dough too quickly and adds unnecessary ingredients to recipe..... But if it's too much and you don't care, forget it. I always do it. Remember , heat dissolves it, so this must be done before heat is added.)
Pour in ground camomile and whatever form of melatonin you have chosen
Simmer, just like you would a tea. Don't let it come to a boil or you burn the camomile.
In a large mixing ( let cool if you want, or work with it warm depending on you and if you have plastic mixing bowls or metal one, remembering that metal is a conductor) pour the broth mixture . Stirring constantly , AND I MEAN CONSTANTLY as you will have already noticed the setiment forming at the bottom, add a half cup of honey, STILL STIRRING.
STIR IN 8 cups of whole wheat flour. YOU MUST STIR THE FLOUR IN THE INSURE PROPER DISTRIBUTION OF HEAVIER INGREDIENTS.
the dough will be "sticky" or "wet"
Roll dough out using how ever much flour you feel comfortable using to keep it from sticking to surface. Remember, the more flour you use, the weaker each treat is. Roll dough to approximately 1/4 inch thick. Then cut what ever shapes and sizes you want.
My treats are 3 inch's long and one inch wide. 20 of them equal 1/4 lb.
This recipe makes APPROXIMATELY 240 treats, giving each treat close to 1 mg each.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
Once all the treats are done , place them in the cooling oven over night to get rid of the extra moisture or keep them soft, up to you.
A full dried batch lasts 2 weeks on the counter, 2 months in the fridge, or forever in the freezer.
Now you have 240 treats. For every 20 lbs your dog weighs , give them one treat, so a 75 lb dog gets 3-4, wait 20 minutes and TADA!
YOUR DOG SHOULD BE ANXIETY FREE.
