Reflection post.
Yesterday my Groomer was hurt. I don't take this lightly. Many people do not understand the physical strain it takes to be a dog groomer. The wear and tear on our bodies is real. When Alaina and I(Kat) are together, we take care to help one another, not just to help ease the load, but to lessen the stress on dogs. Some people prefer one dog groomer over another... I love that, just like an artist, we all have different tastes in styles/energy's we have with each dog. It is important to note, if you do not prefer one person or the other, that you be sure to let us know because at times, we work together to lighten our load and sometimes our hearts. It is also important for people to communicate their likes and dislikes as it is unfair to be unhappy and not allow us the opportunity to resolve it, but to instead go tell 8 million people and have those people judge us unfairly. So Yesterday we had a dog that came in for its first groom ever at the age of 1 completely compact with an undercoat. This was not a bad dog, as I do not believe in that term, just a scared dog, completely freaked out by the experience, let alone his condition(he snapped back at us a few times and the owner expressed the dog never offered to bite them, but all dogs can bite when their scared of an experience never had). It didn't matter, Alaina and I knew the dog needed help and we were there to do the job. Yes this dog was booked under Alaina, but after she was hurt(On a team lift, the dog swung it's head violently causing an audible crack in Alaina's kneck). The dog seemed mildly more tolerant with me so I offered to help because the only next resolution was for us to let it go home. We did the right thing with the knowledge we had. We took all the steps including calling and texting the owner. After the owner called us back, it was decided for the dog to go home. At the end of the day this person made a comment that broke my heart... "You guys will probably put him up on your wall of shame." First of all, we just got done explaining all the things I explained here... Second, that is not our caliber, we love all dogs and people. It's just that unlike dogs, people have a hard time communicating, listening, giving a chance for redemption or forgiveness... These are all the things I think about when having these small business experiences. That is why dogs are here, that is what we are supposed to learn from our furry friends. We spent over an hour of our time with this customer, listening, communicating and caring for her dog compassionately and in the end not feeling heard. 💔👣❤️🐾

This was such a good little read about all the little idiosyncrasies and a sneak peak behind closed doors 🚪🚪🚪 of a good dog groomer. I could not help but share. ❤️🐾🐩🐕🐾🐕‍🦺

WHAT YOU DON'T SEE AT THE DOG GROOMERS.......
You dropped your dog off at the salon and picked them up few hours later - fluffy, fresh, and happy. But what you saw was just the tip of the iceberg.

You didn’t see your groomer arrive early to open up the salon, disinfect tools, lay out fresh towels, and check the day’s appointments. You didn’t see them look over your dog from nose to tail before even lifting a brush - checking the coat condition, skin, eyes, ears, nails, and weight.

You didn’t see the careful way they clipped around a wriggly paw, or how they paused to let your dog calm down during the bath. You didn’t notice the matting hidden beneath your dog’s topcoat, or the way the groomer worked slowly to avoid hurting the skin beneath it.

You weren’t there when they spotted a red patch of irritated skin, or a small lump you hadn’t noticed. You heard them gently mention it to you at collection - not to worry you, but because they genuinely care about your dog’s wellbeing.

And after you left, you didn’t see the clean-down , the floor swept, tables cleaned, blades oiled, messages replied to, notes written up for your next visit, and laundry on again.

All of that… for a price that’s often lower than what you’d pay for your own haircut. And your hairdresser?
They don’t have to bathe you, clip your nails, or hold you still while you try to bite the brush.

The truth is ……. dog grooming is so much more than a haircut.

It’s about health, hygiene, comfort, and trust. It’s about knowing dog anatomy, coat types, skin conditions, behaviour management, handling skills, and safe sc******ng techniques. It’s a profession that takes training, practice, and patience.
Most groomers got into this work because they love dogs. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be paid fairly for the physical, emotional, and skilled work they do every single day.

If your dog leaves their groomer happy, healthy and looking good - it’s not by luck. It’s because you have got a good groomer.
So next time, take a moment to thank them. Leave a review.

Tip them if you can. And above all - don’t undervalue them.
