I have been going back and forth about posting more details about mine and Birds accident.
December 21st, Bird and I were driving, nothing new, just doin our thing. Bird spooked, I started to circle her and then, insert playful husky. At which point the spook turned into a full blown panic, I bailed out of the sled, Bird ran to the barn and in her blind panic, she took out 4 gates and a 6x6 beam.
My phenomenal vet was at my farm in 20 minutes flat, along with Melissa who answered my call that I needed help.
I was hysterical, her face was injured, she was in pain everywhere and we couldn’t run X Ray because it was 12 degrees.
December 23rd we went up to Henderson equine for imaging and a full exam. We find she had injured her C4/c5 vertebrae, Right front leg and right scapula. This left us with 5 weeks of stall rest and a positive outcome.
February 3rd - Henderson equine came out to discuss next steps and examine Bird. Bird had made great progress and is now cleared to start rehab! 🎉
Rehab will include 2 weeks of stretching, lots of muscle engagement via the stretching, balance blocks to help strengthen smaller muscle groups and hopefully work on some of the lingering nerve damage. After all of that we will re evaluate again to start groundwork!
Thankful for all of the people that have assisted with this, or just listened to me about it. Jeff has been incredibly supportive through this and the initial accident ❤️ we still have a long road ahead but we are headed in the right direction!
