I can’t help but think of the phrase “just a man and his dog.” This is Zach in his element. Outside in creation doing what he loves. He built this kennel with a desire to give people great hunting dogs and great home dogs. As his wife i want to give him a thank you for his hard work. Breeding isn’t easy and doing it right and well takes time. He’s worked hard and we are proud of him for it.

We had a hard year for dog loss in our family and a wonderful year of addition to our human family. For both of those reasons we didn’t post as much on Facebook this year. But me and Gus ended Iowa pheasant season well. He’s been with us since we started everything and he means the world to us.

Didn’t get any pictures of the hunt but we had a great day. Gus had about ten points in a couple hours. Sky came up alongside and pointed most with him. Pheasant tenderloins is our family favorite, accompanied by smoked elk loin and our first fire of the season. The pheasant legs were no good (any recipes out there)?

My sister is getting married today but we still found time for a quick 45 minute hunt! Gus did his usual thing and Sky retrieved on her first wild bird hunt-she’s a fantastic pup!

On Friday we experienced a terrible tragedy when Willow was run over by a truck. I/we am still very much in shock. Those of you who met her know how much of a sweetie she was, along with being a phenomenal hunting dog. She was everything I could have ever asked for in a family hunting dog. We are totally devastated. Somehow I never even considered that I wouldn’t have at least another decade with her. It’s hard to stop thinking about what you could have done different, how you could have appreciated her more, just a million thoughts running through your head. Please be praying for us as we struggle to find joy and peace in the immediate aftermath.

The pups are all home. Always bittersweet. Very excited to see how this litter turns out. We love meeting new people and making new friends along the way.

Check out Ascent’s Annie aka ‘Millie.’ Out of our A litter from Gus and Faith. That pairing has produced some pups with incredible bird drive and natural pointing ability. She is owned by Witte Reiter and Morgan Grosely who have done a wonderful job keeping us updated with photos and videos.

Doesn’t matter if you can throw 3 feet or 30 this guy will play fetch all day!

As a mom and hunter this breed has impressed me. They’re great in the field and at home. They’re a big part of our family and our lifestyle and I love that it can be that way.

Got a nice bird on a quick one hour window with Willow. Finally had a little weather and had to get out. This girl is an awesome dog!
