🦃 Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips 🍁
As we head into this Thanksgiving full of family, food, and celebration, we want to help keep your furry friends safe and comfortable! Read on for some tips below to keep your pet safe and then check out our graphic for some pet-safe foods that you can share with your furry friend.

🍗 Skip the Table Scraps
Turkey bones, fatty skin, and rich foods can cause GI upset or pancreatitis. Stick to pet-safe treats instead!

❌ Dangerous Foods to Avoid
• Onions & garlic
• Grapes & raisins
• Chocolate
• Xylitol (often found in sugar-free desserts)
• Yeast dough

🗑 Watch the Trash
Pets are curious—especially when delicious smells are involved! Secure garbage cans to avoid accidental ingestion of harmful items.

🌿 Holiday Décor Caution
Plants like lilies and holly berries can be toxic. Keep decorations and candles out of paws’ reach.

🧘 Give Them a Quiet Space
Guests and noise can be overwhelming. A cozy, quiet room can help anxious pets feel safe.

If you have any concerns or your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, please reach out to the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospitals at 413-665-5911.
Wishing you and your four-legged family members a safe and happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🐾

Remember, any food that isn't a regular part of a pet's diet—especially fatty foods like ham, gravy, dark turkey meat, and turkey skin—can cause issues ranging from diarrhea to pancreatitis, and some human foods can even poison your pets. Side dishes like stuffing and mashed potatoes may contain garlic, onion, leeks, or chives that are toxic to dogs and cats. Desserts may include dangerous-to-pets ingredients like chocolate, raisins, currants, and Xylitol (a popular sugar substitute)—so reserve the sweet stuff for humans only. Plus, chewing and swallowing bones may cause a life-threatening obstruction that requires emergency surgery.
