Dui, an 11-year old pitbull mix, was rescued as a one year old pup. He had life threatening parvo and an intestinal obstruction. Dui’s prognosis was extremely poor. But his hoomans knew how special Dui was and fought against all odds, taking out a huge loan to get a surgery. The vets called him Lazarus because they couldn't believe that he made such a comeback. His mom says “Dui is not a regular dog. He is special. He doesn't even bark. He is the most amazing dog and my daughter who is now seven calls him her big brother.” But Dui got sick and got a hematoma in his ear flap, which kept growing and getting worse. Dui was declining...his mom was desperate to save him and reached out to us for help. We have helped Dui with a grant towards his treatment. We are hoping that like earlier he can beat the odds. Please keep Dui and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

We haven’t posted in a while as we’ve been inundated with requests from low income families and rescuers for spay/neuter grants. While it is heartening to have so many wanting to spay/neuter their pets, the need in the RGV area in TX is just overwhelming. A huge thank you to the independent rescuers who are out there fighting a constant uphill battle.

Look at sweet Sergio, found as skin and bones scrounging for food near a gas station. He was an accident waiting to happen. He was picked up a good Samaritan who goes above and beyond to help the strays out there. Sergio is one of the few lucky ones who will have a chance at life. To live in a home. To have a full bowl. To be a beloved family member. Sergio has been vetted and neutered with a . Look at him now.

A HUGE thank you to our donors and supporters for helping us continue our in S Texas.

Our Foundation has been asked to help with the veterinary care of these 3 adorable pups. Depending on what vaccines they've already had, we will be helping with that cost, as well as with the cost of spay/neuter surgery. The pug mix girl was an owner surrender, and the other two pups were found roaming - all in the Rio Grande Valley. They were saved by a dedicated independent rescuer and are now in foster care, pending veterinary care being completed and then either adoption or placement with a rescue.

Since the start of 2025 HEAL Foundation has assisted with medical care and spay/neuter surgery for 100 dogs. As glad as we are we've been able to do that, we want to do more! The crisis in the RGV increases daily, and the only way out of it is by spaying and neutering. If not that, the numbers of stray animals will continue to multiply.

In a effort to make a bigger impact, we are working hard to create a major spay/neuter initiative, working together with veterinarians, shelters, rescues, independent rescuers - all coming together to confront the ongoing and growing crisis.

In order to even begin to get this brand new program out of the design phase and operational, we need to raise a minimum of $25,000. So far we have raised about $1200 - so we've made a start but we have a long, long way to go!

Please make a donation today to help us improve the living conditions for the animals in the Rio Grande Valley. You can donate using one of the following methods, or the donation button on this post:

Remember sweet Xena (Zee)?

She’s the brave little soul who once hid behind a cactus, terrified and trying to survive after losing her eye. Thanks to a loving foster, she’s been safe and healing for the past few months.

Today, Xena took a big step toward her forever home by visiting the vet for her health certificate—but she tested positive for heartworms. This unexpected news means she can’t travel until she gets the treatment she needs.

We’re asking for your help.

Please donate whatever you can to help cover Xena’s heartworm treatment. Every dollar brings her closer to the life she deserves—safe, healthy, and loved. We can’t do this alone—it truly takes a village.

Thank you for being part of Xena’s journey.

A rescue we know and trust is wanting to pull this dog from a shelter local to the RGV. She is female, only about 1 year old, and dog and people friendly (no idea about cats). She has some orthopedic issues. In order for our rescue friends to save her life, they need a dedicated foster local to the RGV for her, for 3-4 months possibly (possibly shorter). You'd need to be able to handle a dog with some medical needs - she'll need to have an evaluation by an orthopedist.

You would also need to be able to pick her up from the shelter.

The rescue covers ALL costs including medical, food, equipment, etc. Fostering Sweet Anne won't cost you anything in terms of money.

Please private message our page if you're able to foster her and we'll put you in touch with the rescue.

Thank you!

We need your help! Please foster a dog for a rescue!

Our Foundation is not a rescue, but we coordinate with rescues frequently, both in Texas and in other states. One of the major reasons that out-of-state rescues do not step up more often to help TX dogs is a lack of available fosters. In addition to all of the wonderful people in the RGV who rescue independently and step up to foster in an emergency, there is a real need for out-of-state rescues to have a reliable resource of foster families.

*NOTE THIS! If you foster for a rescue, they will cover ALL veterinary care and costs and provide ALL needed supplies - food, toys, treats, crate, leash, collar - whatever you need, a reputable rescue provides it! Fostering for a rescue will not cost you anything in terms of money!

The need is for foster families who can hold a dog for several weeks to several months, until veterinary care can be completed, fosters can be found local to where the rescue is, and transportation be arranged out of Texas.

Can you open your home to a dog in desperate need for a short time, so that a rescue can help?

Opening your home for 1-3 months can make the difference between life and death for a dog, whether they're on the street or in shelter.

If you can help out with fostering, please message our page and we'll match you with a rescue!

It will literally make you a life-saver!
