History class that is… let’s learn a little more about this amazing breed the French Bulldog. Many today are so drawn to this breed for many different reasons. Whether you are a first time owner, interested in the breed, or an experienced French Bulldog enthusiasts, more than likely you were drawn to this breed by their striking features. Ofcourse you would! With their Bat like ears, powerful muscular bodies, unique coloring and flat noses, they have a unique appeal.
Despite the name French Bulldogs , they actually originated in England 🏴 created to be a miniature “toy size version” of the bulldog. They have a long history as a companion dog. So much so that they accompanied English lacemakers to France, hence French Bulldog. The United States saw its first French Bulldog at the Westminster Kennel Club show in 1896. Where the breed acquired their “Frenchie” moniker and it is still an affectionate name that is used today. They once were excellent ratters but today their job is focused on being amazing family dogs and show dogs.
French Bulldogs have the reputation of being intelligent, and training them is easy as long as you make it seem like a game and keep it fun. Frenchies are loving companions who thrive on human contact. So if what you’re looking for is an outside dog that can be left alone for long periods of time , then this breed is a no go for you. Frenchies loved to be loved! They are known to stay close by their human companions, whether it be curling up beside you on the couch or standing between your legs while you’re trying to get things done. They thrive with human contact. Frenchies are not excessive barkers which makes them great for apartment living , Ofcourse their are exceptions to that rule but generally as long as cat doesn’t run past the window you will have a pretty quiet companion.
So if you have the privilege of owning a French Bulldog, just know that you’re in for lots of love and wet kisses! You have a companion for life!
