I have been getting a lot of questions about having training classes at Bear's Bites Boutique & Education Center because of the flooring that I put in.

Let me explain my flooring choice. I put in rubber floors so that ALL dogs are comfy walking on our floor. When the floors are hard and slippery many dogs have problems walking on them. When the floors are hard and slippery and shiny a lot of dogs are afraid to walk on them. The boutique is a safe space for ALL dogs.

Now let me explain the answer I give when I am asked if I am having training classes at the boutique. I have told you all no, I am not a trainer. I know many trainers in the area and some are amazing and some scare the hell out of me. If a trainer wanted to hold a class at the boutique and reached out to me and I interview them and they hold the same standards that I do then I would discuss it with them. I will not work with a trainer that does not hold the same standards that I do.

Meet our friend Mylie.

This baby girl needs help. She has bladder stones and they have to be removed surgically. Thankfully the Bear's Bites Foundation is able to help her family pay for the bill.

Meet our friend Mylie.

Mylie's mom reached out to us because she needs help with Mylie. Mylie needs a major surgery. She has a bunch of bladder stones and they have to be removed. We reached out to one of our veterinarian partners for help and they jumped in action and got Mylie scheduled for surgery this Wednesday. This is a very expensive surgery and we are thankful we can help Mylie's family but we continue to need your help.

Marketing is a funny thing.

Did you know that much of a veterinarians nutrition education if funded by:
🧆 Hills Pet Nutrition “Science Diet”, owned by Colgate-Palmolive
🧆 Royal Canin, owned by Mars
🧆 Purina Veterinary Diets, owned by Nestle

Big companies such as these fund veterinarian University education. They fund “research” with a bias skew to promote their brand’s product “effectiveness”. And unless a veterinarian does their own nutritional research, much of their ongoing education is provided by sales reps who have vested interest in stocking prescription diets on clinic shelves.

Don’t let marketing fool you. Vibrant packaging, pictures of colourful fresh foods, a bag of dry food with a picture of your dog on the front, the words “organic”, “holistic” and even “prescription”… there is little to no regulation around these. Always turn the bag over, read the ingredients and calculate the carbohydrate quantity which the nutrition information often won’t tell you upfront.

How to calculate:

Protein + Fat + Moisture + Ash, then subtract 100 = Carbohydrates

“Complete and Balanced” is a term required for processed foods. Raw and fresh foods don’t have to be labeled this to be sold. These words are also not regulated for fresh foods like they are processed foods - select your pre made raw wisely and always apply your knowledge.

If you truely want to know what’s in your dogs bowl, how high quality the ingredients are, how ethically they are sourced and their freshness, make your dogs food at home. With a little knowhow, this is possible for everyone to do 🙏
