It took a team of dedicated, determined and skilled people to assist this horse.

UC Davis VERT, CalFire, Tevis Administration, Tevis Veterinarians, Western States Radio control, Western States Trail Foundation, and many other volunteers worked together tirelessly and selflessly for the one goal to get this horse to safety.

Great job! We are so impressed, grateful and proud of all of you!

We have learned a lot about biosecurity (set of preventive measures designed to reduce the risks for introduction and transmission of an infectious disease agent-masks, social distancing, taking temperatures, washing hands etc) with COVID.

As horse events start up again, please remember to be diligent about biosecurity measures for yourself and your horse. You can reduce the risk of exposure to all contagious equine diseases with a few simple steps.

Basic biosecurity measures to follow to decrease potential disease spread at equine events include:

Limit horse-to-horse contact
Limit horse-to-human-to-horse contact
Avoid use of communal water sources
Avoid sharing of equipment unless thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses
Monitor your horse for clinical signs of disease and report any temperature over 102°F to a veterinarian
