Two kinds of people: those who can sleep through storms and those who can’t.

Me? I can’t sleep through storms. Not with the rain, wind, hail, thunder, and lightening. Frankly, it wigs me out. My wife? She sleeps through storms without a blink: no worries, no sleep interruptions, no awareness of it. When I ask, she says, “I just close my eyes and shut it out, no big deal.”

Uh-Huh. A Bible author wrote this: “Take note, we should all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” No, not the same thing. But almost always if I lay awake with the storms of life, the eruptions, and worries, it’s usually due to something someone said, wrote, or any number of irritating behaviors.

I think I need to be more like my wife. Maybe not about the storms in the sky, but the storms below. Perhaps if I were more apt to listen, more conscious about not speaking so quickly, and certainly more interested in remaining calm, instead of angry, I actually might sleep better.
