Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be scary for our dogs. A little preparation can make a big difference! 💛

We've created a complete guide to ✨Fireworks Desensitization✨ that you can download from our website, find that link in our Linktree above, and here are a few tips to help you and your dog prepare:

🐾 Create a calm, cozy safe space indoors
🐾 Close windows & curtains to reduce noise and flashes
🐾 Play calming music or white noise
🐾 Take walks earlier in the evening before fireworks start
🐾 Offer comfort, treats, or enrichment toys
🐾 Never force your dog outside during fireworks

If your dog still struggles with anxiety, don't hesitate to talk to your vet about prescriptions that may help. Let’s celebrate the 4th with less stress and more tail wags. 🐕💕

⚠️ Important Screwworm Update from The Sniff Squad ⚠️

Due to the growing concerns surrounding New World Screwworm, The Sniff Squad will not be deploying our K9 teams to known infected or quarantine areas at this time. While we understand how urgent missing pet and missing person cases can be, protecting our dogs from exposure is critical to ensuring they can continue serving families in the future.

🐾 What is Screwworm? 🐾
New World Screwworm is a parasitic fly whose larvae (maggots) feed on the living tissue of warm-blooded animals. Unlike typical maggots that feed on dead tissue, screwworm larvae can invade wounds, causing severe pain, infection, tissue damage, and even death if left untreated.

🐶 How to Protect Your Pets 🐶
✔️ Check your pets regularly for cuts, scrapes, tick bites, and other wounds.
✔️ Clean and monitor any injuries promptly.
✔️ Keep wounds covered when possible and seek veterinary care if healing seems delayed.
✔️ Watch for signs such as excessive licking, foul-smelling wounds, swelling, drainage, or visible larvae.
✔️ Stay up to date on veterinary recommendations and regional advisories.
✔️ Be especially vigilant when traveling with pets to areas where screwworm has been reported.

We know this may impact some requests for assistance, and we appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the health of our working dogs. We will continue monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Make swimming safe AND fun this season! ☀️💦

Before your child jumps in, take a few minutes to set them up for success:
👀 Show them where lifeguards are and how to ask for help
🏊 Point out shallow vs. deep areas
🚶 Remind them to WALK, not run near the pool
🧴 Don’t forget sunscreen (and make sure to reapply!)
❤️ Most importantly—always keep eyes on your child

The Sniff Squad is headed to Kentucky for an incredible 4-day man trailing workshop, so let's wish them the best of luck! 🎯🐕

KSTAR is all about sharpening skills, learning real-world strategies, and bringing back even more knowledge to better serve our community and help find those who are missing. Penny will be working to Recertify while Tempe will be testing for the very first time! 💛
