Happy 75th Anniversary, Hawaii Baptist Academy! 🦅 It was an honor to paint the three campuses I grew up on.

I am forever grateful to the teachers who helped me fall in love with reading, who encouraged me in my art, and who took the time to talk story and pray for me. They modeled what it looks like to love Jesus through life’s mountains and valleys.

Also, my parents met at HBA when they were young teachers, so I would not exist without the school! It’s where I met many of my closest friends, including my husband, Ryan.

These watercolor paintings celebrate the legacy of Hawaii Baptist Academy and its ongoing mission: Christ for Every Nation. Here’s to the next 75 years!

Earlier this year, Michelle Pham asked if I would design some local prints for her. She was creating Hele Pups, a Hawaii-inspired doggy brand. I was honored by the request but a little intimidated. This was my first time designing surface patterns, but Michelle believed in me.

She was a joy to collaborate with, and she worked so hard on these products. She thoughtfully designed each one, found quality manufacturers, and created an original brand.

Two torch ginger watercolors. Those tiny petals were a doozy!

My thoughts:

The first attempt took four days, and I was striving for a bokeh effect in the background. I’m happy with the saturated color and details, but I wish I hadn’t gone so heavy with the layers of paint. I feel like I lost some of the lightness that makes watercolor so special.

I did the second painting in just one day. It’s fun to experiment with different styles and time limits. In this attempt, I was going for a looser, lighter painting while still capturing the details of the petals. I actually like the second painting better because it has more movement 💃

Both paintings are watercolor on my favorite 140 lb Arches cold press paper.

I’m teaching a free adult watercolor class on Saturday, 9/30! Details below:

WHAT: We’re painting anthuriums with a simple negative space technique. Looks fancy, but no worries! We’ll break it down step by step 😊

WHERE: Aiea Public Library

WHEN: Saturday (9/30) 1 pm - 3 pm

WHO: Adults who want an intro to watercolor in a casual, supportive environment. No painting experience needed.

Hello, friends! I finally did it. Welcome to the page for Poshiki, my watercolor + art small business 🎨

I’ll share my art and process videos, announce upcoming workshops + events, and keep you posted about what’s new with Poshiki.

My two biggest supporters, Ryan and my mom, have encouraged me to spend more time on my art. Thanks to them, I’ve been able to create new products and do more painting than I have in years! My day job is still reverse mortgages, but I’m prioritizing creativity in my down time.

Mahalo for all your support and encouraging words over the years. I’m so grateful for you and excited to see what God has in store for the future 😊
