Barks & Recreation is an enrichment-focused pet camp located in Tyrone, GA. We were founded after our owner recognized a major issue in the industry: overstimulation and stress at traditional daycares. That’s why we emphasize the importance of providing both physical and mental stimulation—not just letting pets run around all day. This approach has been clinically proven to offer numerous benefits

, including anxiety and stress reduction, correction of negative behaviors, and improved cognitive function. Our mission is to help every pet in our care build confidence and live an enriched, fulfilling life. At Barks & Recreation, we are a kennel-free boutique styled facility, offering a home-like open space where pets can enjoy playtime and human attention all day! Our boutique-style boarding suites are designed to feel like home, with Toddler beds for sleeping and even TVs for ultimate relaxation! Schedule a meet-and-greet with us today and discover what makes us different. We’d love to welcome you and your pet into our pack!

🍉 Watermelon Taste Test 🍉
Our pups are quite perplexed by this watermelon taste test! Some are very excited and some are a little skeptical of this weird smelling "food" 🤣 if you want your pet to participate in the taste test, make sure you bring them to daycare this week!

🐾 Imperfectly Perfect Dogs 🐾

Somewhere along the way, we’ve created a version of the “perfect dog” that simply doesn’t exist.

We expect dogs to bark when there’s danger 🚨… but never bark at anything else 🤫.

We expect them to be friendly with every person 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, every dog 🐕, every child 👶, every visitor 🚪, every day 📅.

We expect them to tolerate being touched 🤲 when they don’t want to be.

We expect them to happily share their space 🏡, food 🍖, toys 🎾 and owners with everyone around them.

We expect them to never feel anxious 😟, worried 😰, frustrated 😤, overwhelmed 😵, scared 😨 or grumpy 😒.

We expect them to walk perfectly on lead 🦮 despite being surrounded by exciting sights , smells and sounds.

We expect them to ignore squirrels 🐿️, rabbits 🐇, cats 🐈 and moving objects 🚴, despite being descendants of predators.

We expect them not to chew, dig, shred , chase , bark, sniff, scavenge or explore 👉 even though these are all perfectly normal canine behaviours.

We expect them to understand that “Come here!” means come immediately, but “Go play!” means don’t go too far , and “Leave it!” means ignore your instincts.

We expect them to somehow recognise that sometimes we mean exactly what we say 💬, and other times we don’t 🤷.

And when they struggle with these impossible expectations?

We label them:

❌ Reactive
❌ Stubborn
❌ Dominant
❌ Difficult
❌ Naughty
❌ Bad

But what if they’re none of those things?

🤔 What if they’re simply being dogs?

Dogs are living, feeling individuals ❤️ with their own personalities, preferences, fears, likes and dislikes.

🐕 Some dogs are confident.
🌱 Some are nervous.
📢 Some are vocal.
👀 Some are cautious.
🎉 Some are social butterflies.
🧩 Some are socially selective.
❤️ Some love everyone.
🤗 Some prefer a small circle of trusted friends.

And that’s okay. 💙

We don’t expect every person to be outgoing, sociable, fearless and cheerful 24 hours a day.

We accept that humans have different personalities and emotional responses.

🤷 Why do we struggle to offer the same understanding to dogs?

The truth is that many of the dogs we describe as “problem dogs” are often just dogs trying to navigate a world full of unrealistic human expectations.

🚫 A reactive dog isn’t a failed dog.

🚫 An anxious dog isn’t a broken dog.

🚫 A vocal dog isn’t a bad dog.

🚫 A socially selective dog isn’t a problem dog.

✨ They’re simply a mix of genetics, preferences and previous experiences.

Perhaps instead of asking:

❓ “How can I make my dog fit into my expectations?”

We should ask:

❤️ “How can I better understand who my dog is?”

Because when we replace expectation with understanding, frustration with empathy, and judgement with compassion, that’s when our relationship with our dogs truly begins to flourish.

🐾 Not every dog needs fixing.

💙 Sometimes they simply need acceptance for who they are.

Molly is super sweet and loving!

She loves to play with other dogs, but can also entertain herself by throwing stuffed toys around. She sleeps in her crate very well, but would also be open to sleeping in bed with her people (she's a bed hog!). She gets along with and tries to play with her foster's cat, but does not pester her too long. Squirrels are too much for her, so she will chase them and will need a secure place to be let outside. When she has found weak spots in the fence, she always comes back and walks herself to the gate and waits to be let back into the yard. She loves lounging outside and would love to lounge with her person while gardening or taking in the sunshine.

Molly is fully grown and is about 2 1/2 years old. Both parents were Heinz 57 mixes and all of her siblings were different colors and different looks so we’re not entirely sure what her mix is! She is full grown at 60 pounds.

Molly appears to have a “bad knee” or pre-existing injury on one of her knees. So every once in a while, she limps and she is on a prescription joint supplement which our vet is going to recommend that she stays on throughout her life or a similar one also from her future vet clinic. Well this currently doesn’t hinder her much we understand that as she ages, this may change.

JUNE 2026
I hope this season is treating you all well as we move out of the busy school season and into summer! ☀️Attached below is our June calendar. We have lots of fun enrichment activities planned and I am excited to kick off another great summer with all of our pups!

On June 23rd, we will be hosting our annual Pool Party Field Trip! 🐾💦
This is always such a fun event for dogs who love water and outdoor enrichment. Our trainer, Bri, will be setting up her yard with splash pads, pools, sprinklers, and plenty of other exciting activities for the dogs to enjoy including dig pits and agility equiptment. Like all of our field trips, this is an optional addon to daycare, will require advance sign up and spots will be very limited. I’ll also be attaching a few photos from last year’s pool party so you can get an idea of what the day may look like! If you want to make sure your pup attends, message me to reserve their spot ASAP.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. I’m always happy to chat. I am so grateful for your continued trust and support and am looking forward to an amazing summer with the pups!
