169 days.

That’s how long Donnie has been waiting for a home.

169 days of waiting.

Donnie is one of those dogs who loves with his whole heart. The kind of dog who wants to be by your side constantly, who looks to you for guidance, who gently nudges his way into your heart and then stays there forever. Building a bond with him may take a little time, but once you’ve earned his trust, you’ll have a loyal companion for life.

He is a favorite among our volunteers for a reason. He’s wonderful on walks, knows his commands, loves to play, and when he’s home, he’s incredibly sweet and cuddly.

His foster mom recently shared:
“Donnie is still the best boy. He has had no accidents and just wants lots of love and play. I left him alone a few times and he has been fine. He has also started to be a little more independent and will sometimes sit in his bed instead of lying next to me. Mostly though he sticks by my side still.”

🤍After waiting far too long for a forever home, Donnie’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored by a donor. 🤍

He is currently in a temporary foster home, and our biggest wish is for him to go straight from foster care into a permanent, loving home so he never has to return to the shelter.

We truly cannot believe this boy is still waiting. With his sweet heart-shaped nose, unwavering loyalty, and the way he captures the hearts of so many... Donnie clearly has so much love to give. He is beyond ready for a family of his own.

He just needs someone willing to give him a chance.

Where Are They Now Wednesday: Olive 🌷🎀

About two years ago, a cat named Nebraska arrived at ARRI from Louisiana ahead of anticipated hurricane flooding affecting her shelter. Today, that same cat, now known as Olive, is living a life that is pretty iconic.

Her family recently sent us these adorable photos and updates. According to her family, Olive has a “bubbly, cuddly personality” and absolutely loves meeting new people and making friends wherever she goes. She spends her days going on walks with her dad, traveling to new places, dressing up in little outfits, including this amazing taco costume.

From cozy sweaters, to funny sitting positions, to confidently exploring the world on leash walks, Olive’s personality shines through in every photo.

A cat once relocated across states for safety ahead of a storm is now deeply loved, endlessly spoiled, and bringing joy everywhere she goes. Sometimes life has a way of bringing animals exactly where they are meant to be.

Thank you so much to Olive’s family for sharing these photos and updates with us. Seeing our former shelter animals so happy, safe, and cherished will never stop meaning the world 🌮

Crispix, Total, and Raisin are three cats who came to ARRI from the Woonsocket hoarding case earlier this year. These are three of nearly 100 cats rescued from a single home.

When they first arrived, it was understandably a bit overwhelming for them. Human interaction was unfamiliar. Feeling safe again was not going to happen overnight. But over time, we have watched them get more brave, more curious, and more comfortable in the world around them. It has been amazing to see.

Crispix and Total are beautiful tabby cats, both just over a year old. These two have been showing their bravery and curiosity, often watching the world outside their cat room, greeting visitors that walk through the front door, and enjoying their designated spots in their floating cat boxes.

Raisin, a handsome 2-year-old black cat, has also made incredible strides in our care and is beginning to show us the gentle soul underneath his shy exterior. He patrols the ground and will come out to lounge. He has been enjoying quiet naps in his bed... and sometimes the girls will let him have a turn in the floating boxes.

Their companionship with one another is incredibly important, and we truly believe they would thrive in a home with other feline friends to help continue building their confidence. Ideally, we would love to see them adopted in pairs or into homes with another calm, social cat to help guide them.

One of their favorite things is sitting together at the window watching the bird feeder outside their room. We make sure to keep it stocked with seed for them, and they will sit there contently watching the birds (and squirrels and chipmunks) everyday.

Now, we just need to find them a home with a window of their own.

These cats will take someone special. Someone patient. Someone understanding. Someone willing to let trust build slowly and naturally. They may not walk into your home and immediately curl up in your lap, but we know there is so much potential inside each of them because we have already seen it ourselves.

We know cats like this are often overlooked. We understand why. But we also know the right person is out there for them. 🤍

Animal Rescue Rhode Island will be closed to the public on Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day.

Meet Lisa, one of our newest arrivals 🤎

This adorable little hound mix has the sweetest face, complete with floppy hound ears and the cutest brindle markings across her head. With her tri-colored coat and gentle expression, she has a quiet kind of beauty about her.

Lisa can be a little shy when first meeting people. She’ll crouch down slightly, watching with cautious curiosity, but still wants to come say hello. And the more confidence she gains, the more her sweet personality begins to shine through.

Even though she is only around a year old, she carries herself like an old soul. She has such a calm, gentle presence and simply seems happy being near you as she takes in the world through soft blinks, and inquisitive sniffs.

Lisa is a soft-hearted little lady who is going to make an incredibly lucky family very happy. We can't wait for her to find the safe, loving home she deserves.
