Mariska Hargitay, renowned for her role in Law & Order: SVU, has joined the Purple Leash Project, an initiative dedicated to making shelters more pet-friendly. After learning that nearly 50% of domestic abuse survivors delay leaving their abusers to protect their pets, Hargitay decided to lend her voice to the cause. The project aims to ensure that victims and their pets are not forced to choose between safety and their furry companions.

This partnership brings much-needed attention to the issue of pet protection for those in domestic violence situations. For many survivors, their pets are not just animals—they are emotional support and family. This initiative recognizes that no one should have to leave behind a beloved pet in order to escape an abusive environment.

By making shelters more pet-friendly, the Purple Leash Project seeks to remove one of the barriers that prevent people from leaving abusive homes. Mariska's involvement has sparked hope for countless survivors who may now feel supported and safe in their efforts to leave dangerous situations. 🐾💜

Autumn is the longest resident at EPACC and honestly she is shocked.

She’s such a good girl. Sometimes she’s a nervous of new people, but that’s only because life hasn’t always been kind to her. She’s learned to be careful with her heart.
But once you’re in her circle, everything changes. Autumn is loyal, gentle, and devoted in a way that only a dog who truly understands love can be. She doesn’t ask for much—just patience, kindness, and a place to finally belong.

Autumn would do best in an adult only home as the only pet, we know that is a huge ask but we just know with a little Christmas magic her future owners will see this post.
All Autumn wants for Christmas is a home… and someone who will show her that this time, she’s safe. ❤️🐾

He will be 3 years old on 1/11 and he REALLY wants a forever home way before then. He is smart, spirited, and very confident. He loves being part of the action and definitely thinks he should be the center of attention. Once he trusts you, he will form a strong, loyal bond.

Unfortunately, Simon needs an adult only home without other pets so he can be the star. He will do best with someone who understands the breed and enjoys a dog with personality and a little attitude.

Pop has spent nearly every day of her young life waiting for a family. 💔

When Pop ( ) was first rescued in the summer of 2023, she was terrified — unsure of people, unsure of herself, and unsure if she even deserved love. The noise, the strangers, the constant change…it was too much for her tender heart to bear. 🥺 But everything changed when a kind foster stepped in. In a quiet, patient home, Pop blossomed. 🌼

Now, this two-year-old Labrador mix is ready — truly ready — for the forever home she’s been dreaming of for almost two years. 🐾

Pop is affectionate, loyal, and heartbreakingly sweet. With her soft brown eyes and gentle nature, she’ll lean into your legs like she’s known you her whole life. She already knows basic commands, is fully house-trained, and gives the most polite nudges when she needs something — a treat, a potty break, a little love. 🐶💕

She’s a strong girl with a big heart, so an experienced adopter and a home with older children will help her thrive. Pop loves to stay active — whether it’s hiking, walking, or playing in the yard — and she’ll give her whole heart to someone who understands her needs.

Meet Quinn!

Quinn made her way to us from Jamaica in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. Quinn is a reserved, 2-year-old gal who does not understand why she needs a leash to go for walks.

She is sweet but very nervous. She has been through a lot, so just needs a patient person to show her how to be a family pet rather than a free-range dog on the streets. Her calm nature will likely help her transform into a lovely pet who bonds strongly with her person. Ready to take a chance on Quinn? She will be worth it!

Even though little Zsa Zsa didn't get adopted today, she still had a wonderful time meeting new people and other dogs at the adoption event!

This 6-month-old girl is housebroken, crate trained, sleeps through the night, and loves toys and cuddles. Zsa Zsa was born with three fully developed legs, and it doesn’t slow her down one bit. She’s playful, happy, and full of personality.

All dressed up in her holiday sweater, she’s hoping someone will give her the forever home she deserves.
