Although the Pet Food Experts you know today was founded in 1989, our history in the pet industry runs much deeper. In fact, our story begins in 1936 in the basement of Herbert ‘Salty’ Baker, the great grandfather of our current CEO Michael Baker, in Rumford, Rhode Island. What started out as a hobby turned into a small pet retail business which grew into the distribution business you know today.

83 years later, Pet Food Experts is now a fourth generation family owned and operated company headquartered in Rhode Island. Pet Food Experts delivers to over 4,000 pet retailers in 32 states out of five distribution centers located in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Washington, and Colorado.

We are committed to helping pet industry retailers and brands win! Strong partnerships with our retailers and vendors enable us to successfully achieve this goal. Developing solid, long-lasting relationships built on open communication, honesty, and trust with our retailers and vendors who share our commitment to offering quality products and services to the consumer.
